This is going to sound an odd one, but I was wondering if anyone's thought of rat/ferret/small animal hammocks? Or if you sell offcuts of material for making our own? I've seen a lot of people selling homemade hammocks and thought it was a good idea for TRPD, or that TRPD might be able to supply material for someone to make their own (fleece, hardwearing backing material). Dunno if it's viable. But if anyone does hear of someone making hammocks in aid of charity, that would be ace. The average price for a private seller selling homemade ones is about £4 for a basic medium hammock, so I thought it might bring in some quids. ;D

That sounds like a great idea for ALi and the Minx's, Kathy. I have made a few in the past for people, and with clips on so they can be hooked onto the cage bars. The one's I made were like tea cosies, but without all the holes!

I would be very very interested to buy some once this month's expenses are out of the way. I have a large cage of girls and a cage of new boys (and a rescue boy on the way who's going to join the girls - yes he's snipped *lol*) - would love a tonne of girly ones and some boys ones too. There are loads of different styles that can be made too - tubes, double layer hammocks, pocket ones, etc. Course I think it's best if I stop there, cos it's cheeky enough me asking for plain fleece lined ones *lmao*.

Oooo I'm sorry - missed this reply (been hectic here). I've managed to buy a tonne of hammocks from the US (12 for under a tenner delivered, couldn't pass it up). However, they're forever chewing their way through them so I doubt it'll be long before I'm looking for more. I know lots of folks that really go in for matching sets of hammocks too (me included). Basic hammocks are dead easy - a large square/rectangle shape (12-16" being popular - think mine are about 14" but will check - some prefer bigger dependant on what cage they have). Webbing loop at each corner. Done. You could sell them with split rings, lobster clips, etc, but I personally just use giant paper clips. Lisa got some with some brilliant large round (well, more lightbulb shaped) clips on, but I have no idea of the name of them...will look into that. Then you can do two layer "bunkbed" ones - a large hammock with a slightly narrower one sewn to the top, making the bottom hang in a triangular/tunnel shape if you get me: Tunnels are good too - a basic sewn lined cylinder shape with 2-4 loops on the top to hang it from the top of the cage. Haven't got a pic of one of those.... Oooo I know what else I'd like - a rat bag. Basically a rectangular thick/padded bag with a neck strap, like these (click "Product overview", then "Rat and ferret products" - although I'm not keen on how uncomfy their neck strap looks): www.bettysbeds.com/

Corner hammocks are very useful as well. A lot of my chins like to curl up in the top corners to sleep. They take up less room than the square ones to
