I thought I'd open this up here for those that are currently making cat toys to aid TRPD postage funds when sold on the board and of course the rescues that will get them through any future projects.
Please feel free to discuss hints and tips for making them and also if any one else wants to help with the sewing/patterns etc please feel free to do so.

Al did I send you loobies address for some fleece offcuts as well as raiye's, they will both be making them on behalf of TRPD to be either sent out to rescues as a project later on or to be sold to aid TRPD's postage costs

As we now have several people making cat toys we have to decide how we are going to sell/donate them and how ultimately we are going to send them to wherever they have to go. I suggest if we do a toy drop to rescues we should also organise a mini auction to cover postage costs and that way we can all choose wich rescues we will send out to and send postage receipts to TRPD for refunding, or they can all be sent here to me and I will organise the sending of them and send one receipt to TRPD. The ones we sell we would also need to decide how we go about this? Any ideas/suggestions toy makers and of course others.

What about an online style bric a brac sale? LIke freecycle but including a donation to TRPD? Members advertise their "junk" free to a good home, postage goes as a donation to TRPD. I find with many auctions that the prices go too high for me to afford, which is good for rescues but not for me But I can afford to pay a couple of quid postage. Does that make any sense So if I say donated my costume jewelery, very worthless but very pretty, Id bag it and post it to joe bloggs for a donation. Id be a couple of quid out of pocket,I can afford, buyer would be couple of quid out of pocket, they can afford, TRPD couple of quid in pocket, big smiles everywhere. Then the toys can be posted out free to rescues cos postage is covered?

no dog toy patterns as yet Viv but I'll have a look see and see what i can find, didn't I see a bone shaped dog toy on here the other day, who made that?
Cynthia I'll send you the link to the site that I found for the sewn cat toy mice or I think raiye is knitting some (not sure).

I called in to my local garden centre today, and they had a sale area, I was lucky enough to find two more of the giant varieties of catnip there so have now safely planted those in the garden. I came away really pleased with myself.
Perhaps I could get a few done later on in time for a postage fund auction

Getting the toys/blankets to the rescue I would be quite happy to keep miccices and blankets here - to be given a list of 'what to send where' and I would cover the cost of posting them out to the rescues.

I have started cutting coats out for Nikki to sew for when the Coldies and Oldies Project starts to get busy again this autumn, so building up more supplies of fleece off-cuts. I have a carrier bag sized pack each now to send out to those cat toy makers whose addresses I have so far, but it won't be long before there are quite a lot more bags available. Most contain some very small bits that are really only suitable for chopping up to add as stuffing as well as pieces large enough for mouse bodies etc. If you get anymore recruits for the toy making group, feel free to spread the word about these off-cuts. I don't have room to store many bags here but it is a shame to throw them out if they can be used.

Re. the dog bone toy, I don't think there was a proper pattern for that. Just a case of cutting out a pair of shin bone shaped fabric pieces and stitching them together, leaving a space for stuffing, stuff, and then sew up the gap. Another easy way to make a dog toy would be to cut a pair of fleece grooming mit shaped pieces, stitch together, again leaving a gap for stuffing, stuff, sew up the gap and add some felt eyes, and a nose/mouth. When I was a child we used to call things like that 'gonks' and add felt feet and maybe some fur for hair.
