As you well know (or you should ) there has been a little production band making toys etc. for the Kool Kitties that will be in rescues this winter. Now this is for all those of you who wanted to, but couldn't help ... I need wool - the more the better Every large ball (or a few small ones joined together) = one cat blanket and one snuggled kitty Even those odd bits lurking in the bottom of the bag can be united with other bits that have been abandoned and overlooked to make multicoloured ones (don't think the cats are worried about colour co-ordination) So come on - go have a root around and pm me for the address to send all wool to a better life, where it is loved and appreciated …

I have some knitting wool you could have - but since I can also do easy knitting - how about you tell me what sort of sizes you require and I dig the wool out and get started!
Most of the wool I have is either DK or Aran wool - so be a love - tell me how many stitches to cast on and what size needles and I will get cracking.
Take care Jane

I have managed to knit two blankets - one is about 25 inches by 26 inches..the other is about 27 inches by 30 inches. Not sure if these count as cat sized or not. Where wouild you like me to send them?
I will start knitting another - around the same sort of size unless you let me know which sizes you would prefer for the cats.
Take care Jane

Jazz, I'm sure both dog coats and blankets would be fabulous, especially at this time of year! (I'm, like Ali, absolutely useless at knitting and crocheting and the like)

It sounds to me as if we have a new Triune group forming here... Could it be they'll call themselves the 'Kitty Knitters'? (Best not draw libullies attention to that or she'll be posting a whacky gif/logo for them next! ) Perhaps that's just given me an idea for a fun team challenge or game over the Christmas period?

There is a Knitting machine - Empisal Knitmaster up for auction in the current NESSR auction... it comes with patterns directions and a large dustbin bag full of wool This would be a quick way to run off lots of blankets... nessr.proboards104.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=sales&thread=1165089340&page=1It's currently in Northamptonshire but maybe arrangements could be made in connection with a transport run, or courier delivery? I'm sure someone posted something about cheaper options for delivery on this site but I can't find it now...can anyone help please?

my stepmom knits blankets she casts on 160 stitches & knits till its about 4ft. or you can cast on 40st knit till its 4ft do 4 of them & sew them together. i find that easier as i get bored with long rows.

Your stepmom must have longer needles than I do!! Once I get to about 125 stitches I am in great danger of them all falling off. I hate sewing ( and can't do it either) so the idea of knitting two thinner ones and then joining them just doesn't appeal....
I have just started my fifth blanket - each of them is getting slightly larger - but I tend to start thinking about casting off once my knees get too hot...it shows they work if nothing else!
I'm quite happy to keep knitting - and donating to the virtual prize box - after all there will be some smaller dogs who need some warmth....or you could have some cat sized blankets for the Kool Kitties - I don't mind which - but as a new person here I feel like I'm groping in the dark and am not really sure whether or not I'm actually helping. Take care Jane

Just re-read my last post and realise how daft it sounds...
I know that every little helps - what I really want to know is whether or not I am actually helping in the right direction. Jane

considering that all rescues keep needing blankets at this time of year to keep the animals warm - I'm sure you're going very much in the right direction! So you could either try to auction them in any of the special auctions or in one of the 'shops' in the Christmas Grotto or you can donate them to be Virtual Prize Box!

I'm knitting blankets for cats too, I've got donated wool here and I'm working my way through it. I cast on 60 stitches and knit till the ball runs out. I stitch 2 blankets together to make a larger one. I don't think a cold cat will refuse a blanket whatever shape or size it is as long as it keeps them warm.
Rescue Person: Here's a nice warm blanket for you
Cat: I don't want that it's wonky I'd rather freeze *hmph*
lol

i dont know how she manages to keep that many stitches on the needle either but i'm going to try next time. i hate sewing up. and doing blankets is great while watching telly as i dont have to think or count. i know what you mean about being unsure if its the right way to help, i knit dog coats there not the height of fashion & dont wash well. i had visions this poor little dog standing there & all the others laughing at him in his home made jumper. & after seeing the proffesionally made ones on here i wasnt confident to offer 1 for the prize box. i will now.
