The 125th Wildcats Verses Wolves, Terriers & Neddies Sunday Quiz Challenge will take place on Sunday 8th October 2006 at 8.30pm
This week’s Sunday quiz is adjudicated by Mugsy on behalf of the Wildcats. The subject of this weeks quiz will continue with household items.

The man who gave us the pressure cooker (1679), Denis Papin. The French physicist and mathematician was best known for his work with steam power.
2. Who invented and patented the first machine for making paper clips and were was he from?
The most common type of wire paper clip was never patented, but it was probably in production in Britain as early as 1890 by "The Gem Manufacturing Company". A machine for making Gem-type paper clips was patented in 1899 by William Middlebrook of Waterbury, Connecticut. They are still sometimes called "Gem clips
3. What was the key inventions that were needed to may the first fountain pen, and who is credited with inventing the ink-feeding tube and patented it?
It was only after three key inventions were in place, however, that the fountain pen became a widely popular writing instrument. Those inventions were the iridium-tipped gold nib, hard rubber, and free-flowing ink. William B. Purvis, an African American, is credited with inventing the ink-feeding tube and patented it on January 7, 1890.
4. Who invented the first practical modern typewriter, when was it patented and who were his partners?
Christopher Latham Sholes(1819-1890)
Sholes was a U.S. mechanical engineer who invented the first practical modern typewriter, patented in 1868. Sholes invented the typewriter with partners S. W. Soule and G. Glidden, that was manufactured (by Remington Arms Company) in 1873.
5. Who is credited with inventing the first phonograph and when did it become a commercial reality?

Instrument for reproducing sounds. A phonograph record stores a copy of sound waves as a series of undulations in a wavy groove inscribed on its rotating surface by the recording stylus. When the record is played back, another stylus (needle) responds to the undulations, and its motions are then reconverted into sound. Its invention is generally credited to Thomas Alva Edison (1877). Stereophonic systems, with two separate channels of information in a single groove, became a commercial reality in 1958.
