Next subject Mythical CreaturesAl There are two versions of the al. In ancient Persian legend they're half human and half beast, having eyes like fire and tusks like a boar, iron teeth brass claws and copious shaggy hair. They prefer to live in swamps. They are particularity feared for preying on women in child birth, as new-born babies are its favourite food. In Afghan legends, the als are young women with floating hair and very long nails who feed upon the corpses of the dead .............................. (sorry could not resist)

The basilisk was the King of the snakes and the most poisonous creature on earth. His appearance has always been a matter of dispute since there is no way to see a basilisk and survive. Looking at it, according to legend, brings death. The basilisk was depicted in a few illuminated manuscripts in the Middle Ages but appeared much more often as an ornamental detail in church architecture, adorning capitals and medallions. The best representation of the basilisk is found in the decorative field of heraldry where the basilisk had the head and legs of a cock, a snake-like tail, and a body like a bird’s. It seems that the wings could be depicted as either being covered with feathers or scales.

Devil-whale - Extremely large whale, the size of an island. When it is sleeping, or as part of a deliberate trick, the Devil-whale can be mistaken for an island by sailors, but if they land and start a fire, the whale will wake up, and attack the ship or drag it under the water. Sometimes these legends claim that the monster is a huge turtle. Saint Brendan, in his travels, landed on the back of a devil-whale on Easter Sunday. As he and the monks set a fire to cook their meal, the island began to swim away, and they hurredly returned to their boats

no legendary sea monster was as horrifying as the Kraken, a giant sea monster. According to stories this huge, many armed, creature looked like an island when motionless and could reach as high as the top of a sailing ship's main mast with its arms deployed. When the Kraken attacked a ship, it wrapped its arms around the hull and capsize it. The crew would drown or be eaten by the monster. Kraken where mostly noticed in the seas of Scandinavia. Fishermen said that huge amounts of fishs gravitate around Kraken and the boat that succeeds to fish around the monster without awaking it will take more than possible to carry aboard.

Lamia
Description There are different versions of the Lamia: one is a female demon who, in the form of a beautiful women, entices and eats children. Another version is that have the face and breast of a woman, and the rest of the body like a serpent; although they could not speak, their hissing was pleasing. They would lure in strangers, and then eat them.
Yet another version is that they have "the hinderparts of the beast are like unto a Goate, his fore legs like a Beares, his upper parts to a woman, the body scaled all over like a Dragon."

Physically, the manticore was know as having the body of a red lion, the face and ears of a blue eyes human and a tail ending in a sting like that of a scorpion. The mouth contains three rows of teeth and poisoned spines along the tail could be shot, like arrows in any direction. The manticore was also attributed with having a voice that was the mixture of pipes and a trumpet. The beast is very swift and makes very powerful leaps. The manticore is reputed to roam in the jungles of India, and is known to have an appetite for humans. Like its cousin, the Sphinx, it would often challenge its prey with riddles before killing.

Nixie
Nixies are Germanic sprites, beings of the water. Although the male doesn't often show himself to humans. The female however, is often seen sitting in the sun on the banks of their watery homes. Nixie maidens are beautiful with long hair and blue eyes. If a man tries to spy on their beauty, the song of the maiden can cause them to lose their wits.

The Questing Beast has the face of a snake, the body of a lion and the legs and feet of a deer. It is all white with glowing green eyes. Its name came from the noise it makes in its belly, which sounded like baying or "questing" hounds after the scent of their prey. Sir Pellinore of the legend of King Arthur pursued the beast all his life, but was never able to capture it.
