If we can believe various websites, the most remarkable bit of the celebrations was the burning of the effigy of a witch
14. In what country did trick or treating originate? Happy Halloween....
Britain and France
1The customs associated with Halloween have been derived from the beliefs of the druids, the Celtic priests of ancient Gaul and Britain. Many of the ancient peoples in Western Europe would celebrate the end of the harvest season with a holiday in late autumn. The most important of these holidays to later influence Halloween customs was the Samhain, which was celebrated by the Celts of Western and Central Europe in the first millennium BC.
The Samhain, which occurred on October 31, also marked the beginning of a new year in the ancient Celtic calendar.
According to Celtic pagan religion, the druids believed that witches, demons, and spirits roamed the earth on the eve of November 1, which is known as All Saints' Day - a holy day in the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches.
The holiday honours Christian saints and was established by the Catholic Church in the 9th century. The ancient druids used to light bonfires to ward off evil spirits. In order to protect themselves from the devilish tricks of the evil spirits, the druids would appease the spirits by offering them treats.
The druids would also disguise themselves in costumes so the spirits would think that the druids belonged to their own company. This is where the custom of wearing costumes on Halloween, as well as trick-or-treating originated.
5. Which country celebrates "The Day of the Dead" instead of Halloween?
This time is especially notable in Mexico where it is primarily viewed as a public Mexican holiday, and it is also celebrated in communities in the United States with large populations of Mexican-Americans, the Philippines and to a lesser extent elsewhere in some countries of Latin America. It is a public holiday in Brazil, and a large number of people celebrate it there typically by visiting cemeteries and churches, taking flowers, lighting candles, and praying.
In Mexico, despite the morbid subject matter, this holiday is celebrated joyfully, and though it occurs at the same time as Halloween, All Saints' Day, and All Souls Day, the mood of The Day of the Dead is much lighter, with the emphasis on celebrating and honoring the lives of the deceased, rather than fearing evil or malevolent spirits.

19. The ancient Egyptians believed that the spirit left the body
when it died. These ghosts were considered responsible for illnesses and misfortune of the deceased person's family. What was this type of ghost known as ?
The Egyptians saw death as a transitional stage in the progress to a better life in the next world. They believed they could only reach their full potential after death. Each person was thought to have three souls, the "ka," the "ba," and the "akh." For these to function properly, it was considered essential for the body to survive intact. The entire civilization of Ancient Egypt was based on religion, and their beliefs were important to them. Their belief in the rebirth after death became their driving force behind their funeral practices

The cult of the dead is prominent in ancient Egypt, but generally involves a person securing an afterlife either for themselves or for immediate relations: there is less evidence that ancestors from earlier generations received special attention. Objects connected with an ancestor cult mainly date to the New Kingdom (about 1550-1069 BC), specifically to after the Amarna Period. 'Ancestor busts' (busts representing a deceased person) have been found mainly in Deir el-Medine, but are also known from other places. Some excavated examples were found in the entrance part of the houses. Here there must have been a special space dedicated to a cult for the dead members of the family. The most monumental examples are two fine busts inscribed one with the name of the father and invoking the god Shu, the other with the name of the mother and invoking the goddess Tefnet: the reference to the two deities implies that each bust represented the two lines, male and female, right back to the dawn of creation - in Egyptian myth, Shu and Tefnet are the first son and daughter of the creator, the sun-god Ra.
Another late New Kingdom object category is the stela with person identified in hieroglyphs as Ax iqr n ra (akh iqer en Ra) - 'excellent spirit of Ra'. These stelae show the deceased sitting on a chair smelling a lotus flower. They are also dedicated by members of the family.

1 Point for each correct answer

1. What Alfred Hitchcock film mentions Pi (math) in it?
Torn Curtain
12. What was the first Alfred Hitchcock movie to show a toilet flushing?
Psycho (1960)
1Filmed during the holiday season of '59, Hitchcock's personal challenge to make an A-list picture on a shoestring budget became a cultural phenomenon and one of the most influential movies of all time. The spooky tale of Marion Crane and Norman Bates is also a very dark comedy stuffed with hilarious foreshadowing (once you know the plot) and sleight-of-hand.
Reportedly, the great director lacked confidence in the project while in production. It has been suggested he was drawn to Psycho because of the opportunity to break the American taboo of showing a flushing toilet on screen. Paramount Pictures executives worried more about public reaction to the plumbing than to the violence.
