It might work like that but I'll need a better working head on to figure it out! I think it is a case of going into each board individually and clicking something that says whether or not announcements should show in that forum. That relates to all announcements, so it could be hard to find a way to be selective. Will look into it, though, and when my head is clearer.

If that's the way announcements work on proboards, it might be easier just having them as sticky topics in the relevant board? That way they won't show up in other boards.
I've got to admit I still have problems working out where things are actually for sale, and while I'm happy to stick around and work it out it might put other people off when there's so many different sales areas and different styles of sale and therefore different threads for them.
Much as I love this place and have the time on my hands to navigate the maze, I do think it'd be easier for others if there was one place where you buy, and that one place is clearly laid out without subforums, announcements, old threads and ones that have yet to be even opened. I think they're great, don't get me wrong, but they *are* really difficult to navigate around.
I know a lot of you have said there's always someone at hand to help, and that's true and has been a great help to me. But if I didn't know you all already and was a complete newcomer, I can't help but think I'd look, panic and leave. LOL - maybe that's just me!

Thanks for that input, Kathy, it's really helpful. Perhaps others here would also like to comment, and I'll then make some notes and then see what I can do to action the suggestions which are possible on the proboards system and seem to be indicated.

gogs is the password for the Grumpy Old Git's forum in the chat section. The only reason that's password protected is because swearing and strong language is allowed in there - you have been warned! Whoooops........How interesting ......Must sneak in steer clear of that one then.Could be too strong for me in there Carol

I have used the sales section for a long time now and find it easy just because I am used to it but I think it might look a bit daunting for newcomers. The internet is so fast-paced that I think people tend to click on a site/forum and if they don't immediately understand what to do, they don't have the time/ patience to hang around and figure it out. As Kathy says, it would be good if there was one place that was clearly marked for sales, set aside from the rest of the threads. Also, it would be helpful if there was a prominent post that was somehow highlighted and stood out from the rest, that would give info about the wolves, wilcats, becoming a rescue rep etc as it was a long time after visiting here before I understood what any of it was about.

I am a relatively new member and I have to say that I keep losing my way around. I seem to have completely lost the competition threads. I know they are out there somewhere but I can't seem to find them! I find it confusing too to have so many old topics (last post in early 2006 etc) on the boards. I think it would be a good idea to have a separate Sales section too. Took me a while to work out that you were making and selling things! Then a separate section on rescue related matters, then a Social area, with competitions and general chat, would be ideal and easier to navigate. Having said that, I think the merchandise is fantastic and the help given to rescues is really wonderful. I will persevere with finding my way around, but if anyone sees me looking lost, please rescue me!!

There is a post in the Staff Room making some suggestions for changes and improvements as a result of the discussions in this thread. Please feel free to read and contribute or give feedback in that thread, too. You can find it via this link: petcraftproject.proboards24.com/index.cgi?board=staff&action=display&thread=1177611477I'll have to see if there is a way to make a particular thread stand out. Perhaps there is someone here familiar with the admin functions available on proboards who might know more that I do about what is and isn't possible?

Muriel, I am wondering if you are using a MAC or perhaps an older version of Windows Explorer, because in the main index page (home page) you should be able to see the various sections fairly clearly marked? By Scrolling down the index, you should come to a Quizzes & Competitions section, amongst the others that you mention. RuthE may be able to throw more light on the differences between PC and Mac, and regarding how that can affect one's view of a forum. She mentioned something about it recently, and elsewhere on the board.

She mentioned something about it recently, and elsewhere on the board. I no longer have access to a Mac, but in the days when I did I often stumbled accross sites which didn't display properly. Most sites seem to be written to be viewed on PCs using internet explorer, and although professionally produced software such as proboards *should* be written to work on other operating systems and other browsers it doesn't always happen! If a site is not compatible with the browser you are using then you can get problems with overlapping chunks of text and missing text which makes navigation of a site really difficult.

i have found that its easier to look in 'search' as it lists where everything is, even the forums where passwords are needed, if i can't find what i want ;D

I used to have problems and still have problems with finding the things I want to buy. I never used to be able to tell which auctions were open and which were shut, or when they were going to shut - except for the old fashioned big auctions you used to have years ago - I managed them ok. I don't hunt around any more - if I need something I just ask for it! I know it is always going to be good value and the money will go to a good cause. I tend to use this site to buy things - I have absolutely no idea how to join in with the competitions and always seem to miss deadlines - but that is just me I reckon. I need my own personal secreatry (which I will never have) so my life is destined to be one of utter chaos and mayhem. Still love the concept of TRPD (whatever it stands for) so will always perservere in my own little haphazard way.

I admit I found it abit hard to figure out what was what. BUT as I feel it's more important to support the hard work you all do, I just got on with it. Find it perfectly easy now. Maybe a section on 'How To??' It's a shame some people have been put off, if it helps I'm happy to have my name put forward as a guide or someone to ask a question to? ?

I think A; was looking for a new members rep so I think she may be very interested on taking you up on your offer. We made the guide to site section to help but information from someone who has found the site difficult would make it more useful to others.

I don't know about that, but here it stands for 'Grumpy Old Git' and anyone who goes into that forum board for a moan is a self-confessed gog, simply by using that board.

OK - as you can see I'm really new round here - only 4 or 5 posts although I have been a member for a while. The reason I came back to get my dressing gowns here was because they were so well made before and I cant find any of the same quality (or even close) to those I got from here. Also I can ask for them to be altered a tad from standard so they are exactly what I want - not off-the-shelf-take-it-or-leave-it like you get in stores. BUT why was I looking elsewhere?? Because I do find this site quite hard to navigate I asked for dressing gowns about 3 months ago and was told they were in the flash and grab - I looked and looked and couldnt work out what to do. I may be thick I dont know - but it just didnt make sense to me. Having said all that I came back today determined to get my shivering little spaniel the dressing gown he needs - so my plan was to pm a mod and ask for help. But I noticed a 'personal shopper' - what a brilliant idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then by accident I clicked on her profile and saw a thread asking 'Who wanted doggy dressign gowns'! FATE!!! So by luck I ended up in the right place but even if I hadnt I was so relieved to see a personal shopper!!!!!! It just makes ordering/finding what you want so much simpler. I'm not a very confident person and I dont like to make a fool of myself so in the past I've shied away from trying to order in case I got it wrong - but not any more - if I cant find what I need I shall get the personal shopper on the case - and LOVE that her office hours are in her sig!! How funny/clever is that!!! So although this is a little late - I just wanted to say that speaking as a complete newb, yes it is a tad confusing but the measures taken to try and improve things for us hard of thinking have really helped
