... off my son. Now I know I've said that, in the New Year I'd be looking for another dog, or rather a bitch, but it seems my son's jumped the gun a bit, and has offered a home to one that someone got for Christmas and can't cope with. No, not an older, lurcher type such as I had in mind, but a 14 weeks old JRT pup! Not sure, but think she could be arriving tonight. I hope to goodness Scampi and Moss get on with her. Moss probably will, but old Scampi prefers quiet ones that generally leave him alone. We'll just have to see... later! I've no idea what her name is, what colour she is, or anything else about her, but gather she is a handful.

It could be worse, Viv, at least he has a soft heart where dogs are concerned, and has been instrumental is helping to rescue quite a few and get them into the care of a rescue. This one was supposed to be the same (and might still be if unsuitable) but I gather Ethan's seen it... Probably named it by now, too. I'm expecting them all to arrive shortly... Looking for a box as a temporary bed for her.

I'm sure within seconds it will be love! , I remember little Jem coming at 8 weeks, I had no idea what my 14 and 16 year olds would think, but they soon loved her and she soon learned George was too old to play, but Jakey would and loved to curl up with one or the other.
Can't wait to see pics! x

Well, she has arrived, is white with light tan either side of her face and as spots on her ears, and the boys have already named her gypsy. She has already upset Scampi, who has disappeared upstairs out of her way, and she's currently bouncing all over the sofa he's vacated, having chewed the hoss-muck off my boots, and beaten Scampi to cleaning up any bits of my tea that I dropped and decuided the best place to get is to climb onto my shoulders and head! Glad to say that she's not had her tail docked - but neither has she had any vaccinations or, very obviously, treatment for fleas. Something tells me I'll be visiting the vet tomorrow...

Al,
Green washing up liquid with some drops of eucalyptus oil mixed in makes a fantastic de flea shampoo...works much better than specially bought flea shampoo. Jane

Thanks for that. I have some eucalyptus oil here. She's already proving a lively, pushy, bold and demanding little madam, and the two old dogs here are having to do their share of putting her in her place. I've had to put her in the back passage with Moss for the night, as she's already taken a shine to things like the phone and PC cables. Lots of reminders already of why I really didn't want to take on a puppy, let alone a Jack Russell terrorist!

Fun? She is a hell hound! I am not surprised that the previous owners couldn't cope with her! Let her into the kitchen this morning so I could feed her away from the others, but had a heck of a job getting her back again. Finally managed that, after she dived back in several times before I could close the door, after which she decided to howl/sing... and the collie decided to join in for a duet! What a racket! Moss does seem to be attempting to teach her some discipline, and to herd her away from me when I try to get to the bathroom, but she's a feisty little thing, and not at all intimidated by what, to her, must be a giant BC! Just now I discovered him lying outside his kennel den on the tiles, and her lying in its doorway and sending him packing! Booked her in at the vet's for her first vaccinations tomorrow afternoon, but already Dylan and Ethan are arguing over what colour collar and lead she needs! (Ethan says pink as she's a girl; Dylan says he's not going to walk a dog wearing a pink collar and lead, the big macho whoos! Something tells me she'll also need and escape-proof harness, too... and a crate! She has already discovered one of Kira's old toys from somewhere, and had a right old game with that, besides appearing to have a strong instinct to 'fetch'! Sweet and friendly with people she may be, but isn't the sort of dog I'd have chosen. Scampi seems to agree with me, and they really haven't hit it off. I think she'll be okay with Moss, although he's a bit big and boistrous really to play safely with her, the size/age she is. She's only about 10" high!

Always had Daxies, my last left me 2 years ago, always liked JRT s into our rescue came Miss Molly spayed 4 years old, kept in a shed most of her life. Completely opposite to daxies, she has her mad moments, when she does a poo, she runs around the Bungalow 4 times, twice around my bed, then wipes her bum on the duvet cover, always when it has just been changed, < memo, must get brown duvet covers > BUT on the plus side is mostly quiet, well behaved and treats my elderly Min Pin, who is diabetic, blind and partially deaf with great respect, so take hope Al and good luck. Take hope? Mmmmmmmmmm! There seems to be a jealousy issue between the old collie and the titchy terror, and where I am concerned. Could do with some suggestions. When I am not around, they obviously get on well, but when I am around- i.e. when I need to access the bathroom, the pair of them are vying for my attention and a spat ensuses - quite nasty, too - and even if I ignore the pair of them. Both of these two dogs are pushy, demanding types, but with such a huge size difference, the little one could get hurt, however much she attempts to hold her own! Scampi seems just to keep her at bay from 'his' sofa with growls, and now that she's finally learned that he DOES mean business, but she is bold enough to try and push her point, if allowed. However, with Scampi being an ex-working lurcher and still capable o fkilling a rabbit IF he can catch one, I'm wary of having them together yet - even if I am around. Moss, on the other hand, seems to really like her, as long as I'm not around. Spying on them, alone together and both will cuddle up happily in his indoor kennel den. They also do this when my son is around. To extract myself from the bathroom and passage back into the kitchen, and without the little terror diving in through the door, means whacking my leg with a rolled up newspaper whilst backing through the door, and saying 'STAY' in a loud voice! In the main part of the house, the pup is a nightmare. Into everything and every danger with its teeth - especially cables! She'd be a full-time job trying to keep her out of trouble and safe. Worse even than a human child... I've had lurcher pups often enough in the past, but usually after a little burst, those crash out and sleep for a few hours. Not so this little JRT!

Lovely..... My two favourite dogs all in one, after 40 years of owning daxies, I really miss their cuddly long bodies, short stubby legs and big flopsy ears, the only drawback.... three had ruptured discs and it was either euthanasia or expensive surgery There was a risk with surgery, but all came through in one piece and regained the use of their back legs Pat

She must have sat still long enough for a piccie by now lol, reminds me of when my two were puppies. Jem ate the laptop lead wen I popped to the loo (she was asleep!) - the list of things Leo has killed is extensive! .
I do love them though they are so full of character, Jem however thinks she is a person, not a dog, and as such should go everywhere I go! x
