1. Hawaiian: Hau`oli la hanau! Hebrew: Yom Huledet Same'ach! Hungarian: Boldog szuletesnapot! or Isten eltessen! Italian: Buon Compleanno! Japanese: Otanjou-bi Omedetou Gozaimasu! 2. Why do we put candles on cakes? 3. 4. Tradition of placing candles on Birthday cake is attributed to early Greeks, who used place lit candles on cakes to make them glow like the moon. Greeks used to take the cake to the temple of Artemis-the Goddess of Moon. Some scholars say that candles were placed on the cake because people believe that the smoke of the candle carried their wishes and prayers to Gods who lived in the skies. Others believe that the custom originated in Germany where people used to place a large candle in the centre of the cake to symbolize ‘the light of life’. In present times too, people place candles on Birthday cakes and a silent wish is made before blowing out the candle. It is believed that blowing out all candles in one breath means the wish will come true and the person with enjoy good luck in the coming year. Some also smear out the name of the person before slicing of the cake to bring good luck. 5. Like so many other traditions currently in use in the Western world, birthday cakes, too, seem to have their roots in the pagan lore of the ancient world. The Tokenz site suggests that birthday cakes were made as early as the times of the Artemis worshipping Greeks who shaped rounded cakes in honor of the moon goddess. Centuries later it would be Germany, during the Middle Ages, which would see a reemergence of the birthday cakes and their use. Primarily for children, these cakes were a staple in the celebrations that would commemorate the day of a person's birth. 6. 7. 1" wide, INAH webbing, double ended lead with an adjustable handle position to allow use with two dogs of the same or differing heights. It has long been customary to celebrate the Sovereign’s birthday publicly on a day during the summer, when better weather is more likely. Since 1805, the Sovereign’s 'official' summer birthday has been marked by the Trooping the Colour ceremony, normally held on the second Saturday in June. It is also marked by the flying of the Union flag on government buildings, a 42-gun salute and the publication of the birthday honours list. No particular ceremony is held on The Queen's true birthday, although the Union Flag is flown on public buildings. 10. Leo 11. Rat

Drat! you beat me to it, but poor Dray...bet he now gets teased for his birthday! Well, he should be able to endure it, with a nickname like that. ;D Which reminds me, Dray, it could be worse. Writer Steve is now nicknamed 'Stephanie'. That simply because a colleague called Maggot caught him putting a stocking on over his stump!
