GLWR are pleased to announce their very first online forum auction in aid of Lucy Lu. This poor girl has suffered from old untreated injuries which have led to a nasty bone infection. Her treatment is long term, ongoing and expensive. Read her story below:
Lucy Lu came to us with a limp. An x-ray showed us what had happened to her. On one front paw a toe had been dislocated and untreated, it had fused into the wrong position causing constant pain whilst walking.
The other front leg was even worse. Her paw had been smashed and left untreated and, more recently, a bone infection had set in. This had been eating away at her elbow joint for months and was working its way throughout her leg. Her elbow joint was gone. She must have been in pain for much of her young life.
She was immediately put on very strong antibiotics, painkillers and total rest and, at the time of writing, we are hoping that the infection can be halted. The damage, however is already done and her future hangs in the balance.
At best we can control her pain, give her supplements and medicate for the accompanying arthritis.
At worst she faces extensive orthopaedic surgery, possible amputation and, although we can't bear to think about it, it's possible, if the infection takes hold, we may lose this little angel.
The vet now wants to do a biopsy to check for bone cancer.
Lucy Lu is only two years old!
SO ... we are appealing for people to join the GLWR forum at www.glwr.proboards.com , visit the Auction board and follow the instructions for how to participate. The auction is now open for donations to be listed. Bidding will start on Saturday 13th February at 9pm and it will end on Sunday 28th February at 9pm.
We really need your help folks. Human beings did this to Lucy Lu - and nicer human beings need to help her now.
