Hi everyone seems to share their story here so I thought I would have a go!
Throughout my childhood I was scared of dogs - never wanted one.
Met hubby at age of 24 and unbeknownst to me he was seriously considering getting a dog after having grown up with great danes, dalmations etc etc
His mum had one greyhound, very quiet and antisocial. She then got another one which was also quiet and I thought, hang on, maybe I could cope with one of these!
Went up to the kennels to see if any of them needed anew home (Racing kennels - trainer v v nice - loves the animals) There was one big black dog called Bob, very nervy reckon hed been abused in Ireland as a puppy hence no one really wanted him! Trainer had had him 2 years and was gonna keep him for ever if she couldnt home him!
He came straight to me and that was a done deal!
Spent weeks walking him so that he knew me, took him home and I was hooked. Two years later trainer said there was a perfect comapnion for BOb if we ever thought of having another one, we thought about it and yes, Emma became ours also!
Thought we couldnt cope with any more as only in a 2 bed flat but with huge garden. Early this year mil's older dog was pts and she went up to kennels to see about a companion for her other greyhound and they had two!
Well, she had to reject one! It tormented me for days until I persuaded hubby that Millie belonged with us!!!!! Hehe so having been terrified of dogs for years I now have three and would have loads more if I could!!!!
I just hope that when the time comes and I lose one and feel the need for another no one offers me a choice!!!
I know I could never foster, you would just have to call it adoption from day one!!!!!
Hope this isnt too long!!!
