Welcome to the behaviour and training advice Board!
Please do not hesitate to post any question about your dog. I will answer as fast as possible, but as I work full time, run a dog training school and study as well, it might not always be within seconds of posting... So please do not dispair!
Please note that I am in no way medically qualified and am therefore not able to answer any questions in the veterinary field.
Here is a little about myself:
At the age of 14 (that's 20 years ago...), I started taking a neighbour's puppy to a beginners' class at the local dog training club. We moved on to more advanced classes and also had a go at agility (when it was first introduced in Switzerland).
Two years later, I was trained as an instructor taking beginners' classes. I was also part of the group in that training club that introduced puppy classes.
A couple of years later, I was asked to help with the training of a hyperactive GSD. Within 18 months she was a fantastic dog and did working trial competitions with me (Begleithund). I also did some Schutzhund training with her.
9 years ago, I moved to the UK for good. After a couple of years, I started helping dog owners with difficult dogs.
4 years ago, my husband and I decided that the time was right to get the two dogs we had dreamed about for so long. So Dylan, a crazy saluki lurcher, and Troy, a protective pyrenees, joined our family. This woke the urge again to do training myself, so I joined a local dog training club three years ago. Within four months, I did the KC Bronze award with both dogs, and two weeks later, the Silver award with Dylan.
2 years ago, I joined the competitive obedience group and have been training there once a week since. We have been doing various obedience shows since.
Last summer, our third dog joined our family. Flash is a saluki cross too, loves training and is a real whirlwind
Two years ago I felt that I wanted to formalise my skills and knowledge and completed a course in Dog Psychology with the Canine Behaviour Centre.
Since August 2003, I am running my own training school in a local church hall which is doing very well. Since the beginning of this year, we are now running 5 classes instead of just 3.
In January 2004, I became a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.
And last but not least: I have decided to go back to school... since September 2005 I have been studying and working for the foundation degree Canine Behaviour and Training at Bishop Burton College; to be extended to an Animal Behaviour and Training degree.
Please note that advice given is to the best of my knowledge, but is followed at the owner's own risk!
I am looking forward to answering your questions.
