Hi Vera,
This is only a little something that I am curious about, so thought I'd ask.
BF and I have two crossbreds, a dog and a bitch and both neutered. They get on brilliantly and will even share one food bowl. However, when I have them at weekends (having been at school all week) Lupi, the bitch and the boss, will sometimes get quite shirty if Flurry comes up to me. Also, despite them sharing the sofa happily together, Lupi will not let Flurry onto my bed at all.
I wondered if you could explain this? Around my BF they are fine together.
Thanks.
Ari

Hi Ari,
Sounds like you are the boss in the family, then Lupi and then everyone else... Lupi only does what is natural, in her eyes she is the one that should be close to you, not Flurry.
Is it possible that your BF is not as strict with them as you are and is therefore more on the same level as them and therefore not "as valued" as you are? (Sorry for using this expression - you know what I mean).
As long as Lupi does not cause any "physical damage" (e.g. bite) and Flurry accepts her warnings without problems, I would not worry. Let them sort it out between themselves (usually the less interference from us humans, the better) and accept their pack order. If however, you feel that Flurry is stressed about this (and you must not project your own feelings onto her though!), then you need to do something about it, e.g. not let either onto your bed!
Hope this helps.

Vera, I think that you have hit the nail on the head there far more than even you might realise! Knowing a little of the circumstances, perhaps Ari should have explained that Lupi has been with her for about 6 years and must be roughly seven to eight years old now. Flurry is younger and only arrived with them last year. Lupi bonded with Ari almost the moment they first met and claimed the right to share her bed immediately. Al

Sounds like you are the boss in the family... Who, me? Tut! Will I ever live it down? Thanks, Vera. That probably does all make sense. Although my BF is a bit of a softie with the dogs and spoils me rotten, he can be assertive when the need arises, so I don't get things all my own way, honest. Flurry always takes the hints off Lupi, so no damage, and Flurry's such a daft clown of a dog I doubt very much if he's stressed. He usually flops down and falls asleep when Lupi rejects him. Ari
