Two questions about Teddy
He has been with us since Easter.
Firstly I am trying to get a bit more weight on him - he is up to date with his worming, is currently on CP24 - fed twice a day - and in terms of exercise he has free access to the garden but does spend most of his day snoozing on the sofa. He has 3 other dogs to play with and they probably have a mad 10 mins two or three of times a day.
He is 'walked' twice a day - he has access to 14 acres so he runs around 15 - 30 mins each session. He will go off at lurcher speed and then just dart backwards and forwards chasing rabbit scents or digging around inthe hedge row etc Any ideas on how to get a bit more weight on him.
And secondly his recall. He is very good on a long line -will turn on a sixpence when he knows there is food to be had - however once he is off the line the recall goes out the window.
As I said he does have access to 14 acres of privately owned land and he has shown no sign of wanting to go beyond these fourteen acres - yet!!. When I shout him he looks at me but is clearly far more interested in all the rabbit smells etc!!!!!
The land is literally on our doorstep - we own 4 and our neighbour has very kindly given us permission to use another 10. When it is time to go in I shout to let him know we are going home and start to wander back and invariably he beats us all back to the kitchen. If I try to catch him in the middle of the field then I suspect I would still be there!!!!
This is fine given our setup but it does limit him to off lead exercise at home as the recall is certainly not up to any public areas.
Any ideas.
