keep your fingers crossed for me - we're going to meet a prospective new member of the family, a year old collie girlie, found stray. - black/white It will all depend on what Maisie thinks of having another girl about, she can be brilliant, or a bit of a mare. Should I be doing this? probably no. Can I make it work? probably, yes. All my dogs are named after detectives -though some are very tenuous (don't ask why ) so ideas to join Morse, Robbie, Troy, Rebus and Maisie gratefully received currently thinking of Cagney, Lacey, Merrily (nearly a detective) and Whimsey. Any more?

What about Jane (Marples)? Nice idea to have themed names. Detectives provide some really good ones. Most of mine seem to have had names they responded to when they arrived, or else were named by other family members. Scampi was originally just Scamp. He didn't seem to live up to his name, but does love his chip hunts in the early hours of the morning! Mind you, of late, he's living up to his name, and so addled, it is pointless trying to repremand him for things like turning out the kitchen bin onto the floor and riping the contents into tiny shreds. He is fairly deaf now, and I find I usually have to touch him to get his attention.

A friend of mine had a cat called Marlow - was he a detective? (for some reason I thought he ma have been) - having said that I presume Marlow is a boys name, so no use eh?!

Don't mention Hetty! That's my old hen who is forever getting into the bird garden to investigate everything newly planted and scratch things up! ;D
I was trying to think of the name of the woman detective in The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency TV programme last night, but it still eludes me. Can anyone else recall it, please? Was it Precious or Patience?

Found running around on the dual carriageway just down from the service station As you can see, just a typical WS, but as I loaded her into the van to take her up to the kennels, I would have taken her home with me then.

Made it as far as the kitchen! Too tired to move after a 4 hour walk. The day has gone very well, although I could do with her not being in season - still mine are done, its not a real problem. Its actually gone very well - Maisie told her off for being in her face , and for getting in the way on a bumble bee hunt , but she seems to have taken these lessons on board, and peace is currently reigning. Rebus is doing his impersonation of an elderly batchelor uncle, but he's not a grumpy dog with other dogs. I have chosen a name, but assuming she's still here (nothing drastic going wrong overnight/tomorrow) I will donate a collar and lead for a rescue to the first person to guess it.

Oh she's gorgeous - so glad it's going well so far, paws crossed that continues Well if she was mine I think I would be calling her Precious - because she is and she was so lucky not to have been run over.

Yes, she is staying. (though I'm coming to the conclusion that behind that "Butter wouldn't melt in my mouth " expression is a shrewd little manipulator who will give us all a run for our money!!) I've just asked Al to set up a quiz to guess her name so keep your eyes peeled !
