Hi Vera, Nicola3 (new member) has posted this in the sales thread, but I have copied it to here in the hope that you can offer her some guidance as to the best option. She was asking about the Figure 8 adjustable headcollar/lead combination, but not being an expert when it comes to controlling a large strong dog, I thought it best to seek your advice before she goes ahead and perhaps wastes her money.

I would certainly recommend a head collar. As to which one is a bit of a gamble really. There are so many available and different styles suit different dogs. And the best advice I can give really is to try them and see which one does the trick and is comfortable on the dog as well as for the handler.
I put a figure 8 head collar on Troy (pyrenees), but didn't feel it fitted properly - although I have heard that other people use it very successfully. Troy has also worn halties (they were ok), gentle leaders (not bad at all), but the best fitting one is the Dogmatic headcollar for him! Some people say that the leather is too hard, but it is not causing any problem or discomfort for him at all!
A harness is probably a good idea, but I haven't tried one on Troy yet - although I intend to. But I have heard of rottie owners using them successfully. Whether just a normal harness would do the trick or whether something more specialised like a Walkeeze is needed, again is probably a matter of trying.
Sorry I can't give a clearer answer, unfortunately this really is an area of trial and error.
Vera
