Hello It's that time of year where I feel I need to achieve something, so have signed myself up for a half marathon! The Windsor one was full so I have signed up for the Henley Half Marathon. It is on the 10th October 2010 and I will be running in aid of The Dogstar Foundation. As they now have charity status, I have set up a justgiving page, but if you wish to sponsor on here that would be fabulous too Any motivation or support is deeply encouraged as I am learning to run in the hope that this time I will jog/run the event not walk/jog it! The time may reflect that my running at the moment is slower than my walking... Thank you in advance to anyone who would like to support me in my endeavours and for the support for The Dogstar Foundation. www.justgiving.com/MaryGordon-Cumming000Wilsonwww.dogstarfoundation.com/ :-[Love Murtle xxx

Well done for being brave again for Dogstar, Mary. How about if I sponsor you some collars for the cause? Say one dog collar per mile?

I think it is 5 weeks to go, and I ran 6.5 miles on Sunday. My longest run yet and half the distance I'll have to run! I was very pleased with it and managed to push through the pain, the breathlessness and got myself into a nice pace. My OH comes out with me (he's on a bike as he doesn't run), so we ran to sainsburys bought a couple of things and then ran back the long way. Even the rain that started whilst we were out didn't dampen my spirits!
This I feel is a big step from the girl who 5 weeks ago could nearly run 1.9 miles and end up in a heap on the floor at the end!

Well done, Mary. Glad to hear your training is going well. The way those birds down at LT are eating, I'll have to do some sort of a sponsored event for bird seed and fat ball ingredients - but it won't be a run for sure! (Mammoth fatball making session, perhaps? ;D )

Thank you xxx
To my shame, I was always the one that was happier to wait for the next bus than run for the current one!
However, I am apparently being sent on a 2 hour run on Sunday...apparently it's all about how long I can run for...not speed. (If I had speed, I wouldn't have to run for so long though...but apparently that is the world of running that I have to follow!)

I really really enjoyed it...must have been all the sun getting to me!

Thank you so much it is hugely appreciated. I went to see the hill I have to run up on Saturday to see what the comments were about! It's around miles 9 and 10 and is evil. It appears that many walk the final ascent just because it is so steep that run/walk pace becomes the same!! Mxxx

Well done, Mary... I hereby and henceforward delegate all my aspirations to run, beit uphill, downhill or even on the flat, to you... ;D (Well, I need two sticks in the mornings just to get from my bed to the bathroom, so such aspirations are not much use to me nowadays! )

ouch Al, I will endeavour to be your runner!
Especially as this weekend, I ran 13.5miles in 2hours 40minutes...so now I can run the distance (OH stuck a whole load of hills in the middle for me to practise on) I need to reduce my time...
I can even walk about today, although my knee's do occasionally let me know that I ran a looooooooooooong way....

After yesterday's outing on that silly old horse, I was stiff as a board trying to get out of bed this morning. Luckily, I have loosened up a bit now, but am not about to repeat the experience today. I chucked the old devil out in the field with Bron this morning, even though it was raining. I need to get these rib muscles fully healed before tackling to beast again, and if in that mood. Have cut out a batch of assorted collars, ready for my sponsorship, so will need to get those sewn up soon.

I thought I would update here, I ran the half marathon in a time of 2hours 41. Slightly slower than I wanted to, but actually delighted that I completed it. The hill was hideous and came very late in the run.
Thank you all for you support.
