A secret friend is good fun if all who take part do their bit. Basically, those wanting to join in send their names, addresses and some simple details about themselves to me - alison@trpd.co.uk - and I pass those on to another participant. Once the 'Secret Friends' have their secret pal's details, they then send then something in the post anonymously. It could be a doggy postcard, a poem or even a treat for their pet. Secret pals also send things like Christmas cards or little gifts and part of the fun is in trying to identify your secret friend. Anyway, if you want to have a go, just email me with your name (or your dog's/pet's), postal address and details of your pet/s or any little things you might collect, such as poscards, embroidery charts/cottons etc. I'll then match (as best I can) pals up, although if 'Pal A' is matched with 'Pal B', 'Pal B' won't necessarily be matched with 'Pal A', if you see what I mean? Well, only 2 so far, it seems, so I'll be delaying sending secret pals out until there are a few more on the list. (Don't want it to be too obvious whose pal is whom!) Much of the fun in this is trying to disguise the secret pal's identity and making it harder for people to guess. There just MIGHT be the odd prize for a rescue for... a. The first person to identify their secret pal and... b. The last secret pal to be identified. Al

Five people have signed up for this so far. For anyone who makes or collects things for rescue fund-raising, this can a great way to help. If a secret pal knows, for example, that you collect used postage stamps or perhaps make gift tags from birthday/Christmas cards, then they may decide to collect these from friends and relatives for you, perhaps? Similarly, if you indicate you can use broken jewellry/beads to make things like tassels for greyhound collars, then those items too may be collected for a secret pal. Later, when things get going, there are lots of ways to use the board/thread to throw a secret pal red herrings as to your ID too, which can add to the fun. Al

Surely there are a few more members here who would like a secret friend? Although people can join is later it would be great to have a larger pool of friends to get started with. Al

Al Al, with 286 members in the forum, I can't believe you don't have at least half of them now all clamouring for a 'secret friend'? I think it sounds like an excellent idea. If you haven't sent your details to Al already, then jump on in You have nothing to lose and you may make a lifelong friend ;D Jane

Thanks, Jackie. BTW, for some reason MSM is refusing to sign in again, so perhaps it is too busy with kids online! My apologies for the server cutting us off. If you need to speak urgently, please PM and I can always phone you. Al

Everyone on my list should now have received details of who their secret pal is, although I've been having problems with my emails so if anyone hasn't received either an email or PM, please let me know. If anyone else would like to join in the fun that will follow, please email me and I'll arrange a Secret Pal for you ASAP. Now, I will be posting various questions in this thread on behalf of secret pals and to perhaps aid the identification of various others or else to aid one pal to gain information about things their pal might like to collect (maybe on behalf of their pal's pal - if you see what I mean?) Behind the scenes here I've a list of who's writing to whom and have colour coded everyone, so instead of posting *name* would like to know if *name* collects 'X' for their pal, it will read something like 'red' would like to know if 'orange's' secret pal collects 'X'. There will also be a new board starting soon for everyone, secret pal or otherwise, to swap things, too. Al

I've resent the email, Ingrid and have also sent you a PM and, so far, I can't see any reason why the facility isn't working? If you can see that you have a PM from the message on the top right of the screen, perhaps you could try and access that and reply? If it doesn't work, then post here or email me, explaining what happens when you try. Al

Here's the list of nicknames... the following is a list of the nicknames I've given to each 'Secret Pal', and it will be up to those taking part to try and identify their own and that of the others taking part. If you wish to email me questions to post to help you do this, then please put 'Secret Pals Question' in the subject line. Nicknames
1st Batch
Royal Blue Jade Burgundy Grey Pink Apple Green Navy Blue Leaf Green Orange Purple Scarlet
2nd Batch
Apricot Dusty Blue Mauve Yellow Turquoise Sky Blue Crimson Snow White
(N.B. Some of the 2nd batch still need to be allocated to members but have been included to enable new members to join in.) Your first task will be to try and identify your own nickname by sending me a question to post here on your behalf. This might be something like 'Mauve would like to know if any secret pals are writing to someone who collects hats?'If anyone does, then they simply email me and I'd post the answer along the lines of Sage Green says she collects hats.Of course, Sage Green may choose not to answer! However, in time someone will solve this giant 'Logic Game' and figure out which colour codes nickname fits where in a grid of three columns headed as follows: PARTICIPANT - (SECRET PAL OF) - IS WRITING TO. At the moment there are 11 of you taking part but more may be added over time. At least now you can complete the first column! Have fun but be careful not to give the game away on the board itself with your questions! Al
