Danger! Kitten at Play!
I came to live at this house But I don’t know if I’ll stay ‘Cos they shut me in the kitchen And there’s nowhere safe to play. There’re paints and sprays and solvents Which are poisonous to cats In a cupboard in the corner With some fatal stuff for rats. The vapours, if I spill them, Are heavier than air So will sink down to floor level And could leave me lying there! There’s some, if I absorb them Through the pads beneath my paws, That could give me nasty blisters When the folk have cleaned the floors. There’s a kettle with a cable Which dangles in my sight But if I were to play with it I’d not be very bright. The washer door stands open An inviting place to hide, But I’ve watched the washing spinning And I wouldn’t like a ride! The cooker hob might burn me So might fat splashed from a pan, And a kitchen knife will cut me Like the lid off some tin can. Old tablets in the rubbish bin And some spilt by the door, Were clearly very tempting As they rolled across the floor! There are pots and pots of houseplants Lined along the window sill If I chew them will they kill me? Or simply make me ill? I’m just a little kitten And I’m trying to be wise But if I survive in this house It’ll be a big surprise.
