GSD bitch, 10 y/o. no vices, lives out. Owner has moved from a farm cottage to a house in town and works long hours. Has had the dog for 5 years and she hates the town, other dogs and being inside, we are told. Local big shelters have deemed her unrehomeable and wont take her so the owner asked our vets to pts, they refused and contacted us. "Poppy" has been here two weeks now and has settled in well, she is a DREAM, good recall, walks to heel, loves a cuddle. She is accompanied on her walks with a GSDx male and a Lab female and tries her best to get in the house but is living out at the moment. She is a big girl with good coat, moves well and can be quite lively, there is a question mark over her age and she could be as young as seven tho' I would have guessed about nine. she has not been spayed as far as we know but will be wormed, flea treated and vaxed soon. I feel that the ideal home for her would be as a mans companion where she could have warmth and company for her retirement, she can be left but loves to be with you so it would be nice if she could come to work with you but not have to face too many new people or new dogs. If you or someone you know might be able to offer her a perfect forever home then please do email me for a rehoming questionnaire, please forward or cross post at will. Many thanks Dave www.poplarfarmkennels.org.uk/

Hi Dave, Confused now. Dog does likes being inside, yet tries to get in, doesn't like other dogs, yet is fine walking with them. Hates the town-not sure. Seems this poor dog has be lied about by its owner. She looks beautiful. Kathy.

Sorry didnt see the previous post and didnt get notification of the reply.
Time for an update...............
Poppy has become one of the pack and mixes with all the house dogs. Last week she developed a limp so on Monday I took her down to the vets who found arthritis in her right elbow and perhaps her hips, I have rimadyl for the bad days and told to restrict her exercise and keep her warm. She was vaxed and tolerated the examination well.
I took the chance to walk her down the village high street and found the owners description to be true, she hates other dogs when on lead. No probs with people or cars but the lady being towed by a border collie got the full works!!! Two yorkies going away from her she ignored, the cocker coming towards us also got the treatment.
Poppy has decided that she does not like her kennel but the van is an irresistible palace to her. She will come in the house but only for food.
So now the dilemma........she is happy and settled here and I fail to see how a better home could ever be found for her. Her age is in doubt and the owner now claims that she is not yet eight but even so............ Is it fair to uproot her again for her twilight years?
The home we had lined up has not materialised and was in a town so probably not suitable anyway, add to that the fact that I think she is a babe and there is only one answer....
Poppy has come home.

Dave, you and Rachel are truly stars in my eyes. Well done for giving Poppy the chance she needed to live her life how she wants to. She does look like a beautiful girl and I am sure she will be a credit to you and your hard work.
Please do keep us updated of her progress ... and as you know I always really like to hear about our Sian who would have been dead if it had not been for you....your offer to help her in her moment of dire need will never be forgotten by me.

Sian deserves a thread of her own, this past week she has begun to play, not just with one dog but with the pack. No longer is she scared of the shadows and all but one of the dogs here, now she can cope with them all and all at once!!!! No sign of any lumps yet so perhaps we got them in time.
Both Sian and Poppy illustrate the worth of a true NO KILL policy, they both have a happy and contented life even if it is not what is expected for a normal pet and even if it has taken a while to get there. Neither dog has real problems but both could so easily be dead, when they rush to me with tail wagging the hard work and long hours is a small price to pay.

Congratulations Poppy on finding your forever home with Dave and Rachel. As Poppy is no longer looking for a home but we do want to hear more about her, I've moved her thread to somewhere I hope is more suitable. Dave, why not start a separate thread for Sian, and keep us updated on her story as well? I for one would love to hear how she is getting along. Jackie.

So sorry to hear that Poppy has gone to the bridge, bless her.
I'm pleased though that she had many months of knowing the comforts of a loving home...
