Plymouth’s oldest animal welfare charity, Gables Farm Dogs’ and Cats’ Home, is staging a family dog show on Sunday, October 2 at its 11 acre purpose built site on Merafield Road near Saltram House. Mrs Jackie Lang Bradley will commence the judging at 11am with the competition expected to end by 2.30pm.
“This is our last dog show of the year, so we want to attract as many owners and their dogs as we possibly can,” says Lynn Henwood, marketing assistant, gables farm, who organizes the three family dog shows that are held at the home every year. “It would be fantastic if we could get 100 dogs to come on the day, whether they are experienced show enthusiasts, ex residents or novices to the show circuit, who are up for a bit of fun.”
The competition will comprise 15 classes in the following order: Veteran dog or bitch over seven years (special rosette to best over ten years), puppy 3 – 12 months (fully vaccinated), best condition pedigree dog or bitch, best condition cross breed dog or bitch, prettiest bitch (under 20 inches and over 20 inches), handsome dog (under 20 inches and over 20 inches), best smooth coat, best long coat, appealing eyes, best rescue, best mover, waggiest tail, best trick and best child handler.
Rosettes will be given in each class for 1st – 4th places, with all first prize winners competing for the positions of Champion and Reserve Champion.
The Gables Farm family dog show will cost £1 for each class entry, with registration taking place on the day. Hot refreshments will be available. All funds raised will be channeled into the general upkeep of the home which costs over £500,000 to run every year. For further information, please contact Gables Farm Dogs’ and Cats’ Home on 01752 331 602.
