Hereford and Worcester Animal Rescue have a wee bit of news so I thought I'd share it.
Some of you will be aware that for a while now we have been struggling big time to pay our bills. The boarding kennels we were using (at the special rate of £6 per night per dog) were proving to be very expensive, especially as we have been short of foster homes to relieve the strain and have had a lot of vet bills (as ever). Also they put constraints upon when they would allow people to visit our dogs needing homes...eg not over Easter period - as it interfered with their bread and butter (£12 per night) boarding business before and after when people were drpoping off and picking up, and over the actual long weekend they wanted a break themselves. This made it difficult for us to rehome as that is exactly the sort of time people thinking of adopting a dog would like to visit.
Well now it seems we have a resolution on its way. The farm (where the council pound is), is going to get rid of their pig sties and stop farming pigs....and build 2 blocks each with 10 kennels - and they will be for our use at an even more reduced rate - not sure how much yet but hopefully more like £3 or £4 per night per dog.
They will be built for use within 2 months hopefully.
There is a catch - there will be no kennel staff, so we will need to rely entirely on volunteers to clean and walk the dogs. (I think the farmer will feed them.)
We have a rota of local volunteers willing to help, which is great. Some less local people have agreed to help at weekends with walkies.
