This is a general Auction to benefit both Greyhound Gap and Lurcher Link with the first £500 being put into a vet account to continue covering the care of Benji. Read his story below.....
His initial vet care bill has been taken care of by Greyhound Gap but both GG & LL members felt it would be lovely to try and give this lad and his new family a more secure future
We are therefore holding an auction this weekend in the Greyhound Gap Auction room which can be found here (greyhoundgap.proboards35.com/index.cgi?board=1200) starting at 9pm tomorrow and finishing Sunday at 9pm. If you have anything you would like to donate, please feel free to contact me by pm/email or alternatively donors can list items themselves...and do please pop over and look at some of the goodies that are already being listed
Thanks on behalf of Benji, his new family and all the humans and hounds at Greyhound Gap and Lurcher Link ;D
Let me tell you the story. On Thursday last week in Norton (Stoke on Trent), my neighbour who was on her healthcare rounds saw a dog lying by the side of the road. She stopped and saw the state he was in. Loss of fur, starving, bad eye sight. Knowing that she just could not leave him there, she wrapped him in a blanket and took him to the local vets. The vets just said that he would put him to sleep without even thinking about it. So marie said she would take the dog to her own vet because she thought the dog (who she has now named Benji) deserved a chance to at least be looked at and try and be treated.
Benji has Mange, poor eyesight due to cataracts, weighs just a 3rd of what his actual weight should be, and it is thought that he may need part of his tail amputated. At present he is at the vets being nursed back to health and if he pulls through - Marie is going to look after him and love him like he deserves. (Hopefully the 2 dogs that she has will take to Benji so that they can all live together).
The problem is that the vets bill she has been told will run into the hundreds due to all the treatment he needs and being just a one-parent family she really is stuck. Dont get me wrong, she will go into debt to make sure the dog is looked after. I was wondering if anyone knows if she can get any help towards these vets bills.
The thing in all of this that has maddened Marie and everyone else she has spoken to is that people just walked past this poor dog including the local Postman who when asked by Marie if he knew who it belonged to he just said "Oh yes, Ive seen the dog for the last few days" and just left the poor dog!!! Also when called by the vet the RSPCA just said they could not do anything and would not come out and just told her to call the dog warden.
