...accepting a special challenge? It has been suggested elsewhere on the board that we put together a little 'Pet Memorials' booklet that rescues could then print and sell towards their funds. This would simply be a collection of poems, thoughts or sayings compiled from those offered by members and that may bring comfort to others who have lost pets or who may want few words to place on a pets grave of stitch on a sampler or photo frame etc. However, it would need illustrating, and what better way to practice photo-editing skills by producing those illustrations? I've just copied these below from the Rainbow Bridge forum and as an example of the sort of verses and words that might insire your creativity to illustrate... 'You were a light through childhood A Guiding Spirit, too A mother to our anguish - We will remember you.'
'Run free, beautiful ghost girl, I'll always seek your spirit in the sky on a cloudy day.'For anyone creative, images that words like this can conjour up are vivid and inspring. I know that the dog those words were penned for was an almost pure white border collie; a working sheepdog who saw her family, especially the children, as an extention of the sheep she tended. Indeed, if when very young the children appeared to be straying, she would herd them back to safety. Without being trained to do so, she ensured they kept away from a pond on the farm and the the road at the end of the farm drive and unless supervised. As they grew older she led many of their adventures, her body attitude and behaviour, once read, enabled them to discover many things about local wildlife too. Even about strangers that strayed too close and whom she thought dubious. So what do you think? Are you up for a challenge to do some illustrations for any verses and sayings along these lines? If so, then I'll also challenge the members to provide more suitable words, too. At the end of the day, all we are looking for is a mastercopy of simple booklet easily produced by a rescue or their representative on a home PC printer and that can be produced to order and to help funds for any rescue. Perhaps only a dozen or so pages and with a cover illustration and a few inside that could even be as backgrounds with a text box inserted in a suitable position. Al

I've been amassing a collection of similar poems, perhaps these would help with inspiring the creative out there!
This are my favourites but if you would like the rest, please let me know!
Don’t cry for me I’m doing fine, I’m in heaven now with wings that shine, It makes me sad to see you cry, but I’ve big fields and flowers up here in the sky, God gave me all I could ever dream, It’s a place more beautiful than you have ever seen, While there on earth I saw your smile, bringing me peace if just for a while. Now as I live in eternal bliss, please just know I send you a kiss, I loved the time you devoted to me, but want one last thing, for you to smile for me.
I stood by your bed last night; I came to have a peep. I could see that you were crying; you found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you; I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast; I watched you pour the tea, You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today; your arms were getting sore. I longed to take your parcels; I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today; you tend it with such care. I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key. I gently put my paw on you; I smiled and said, "it's me."
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair. I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me to be so near you everyday. To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled; I think you knew in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over; I smile and watch you yawning and say "goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I'll rush across to greet you, and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you; there is so much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out; then come home to be with me.

Is the first one your work, Nicky? We will need to make sure that any copyright aspects are covered with any we use, so best really coming from our own members. That way an understanding re. assigning copyright for the use of any rescue organisation on our board. Al

No sadly I'm not that poetic!!
Most of the ones I have are "Author unknown" - they seem to have been posted on various forums on the internet, so I think you'd be ok with regard to copyright?
Unfortunately, unless we actually know the author and they are willing to assign or donate their copyright to a project like this, we'd not be able to use them, Nicki. Although unlikely considering it is a charitable cause, we could find further down the line that we ran into expensive leagl problems, hence can't take any chances. Far better to keep the project within the group membership and make it a condition of submission that any verses/photos are assigned and the members own original work or that they have permission to post them for the purpose. - Al

Wow! That is brilliant Tracy! (Although I have to confess that with my eyesight I can't read the text and may not even be able to make it out life-sized on a page if in white against a pale background. Possibly other older or visually challenged people may have the same problem?) As it stands, I wonder if that, printed onto a good quality paper and then mounted and framed, might not be a popular item to offer for sale on it's own? Presumably a second version reading 'beautiful ghost boy' instead of girl could easily be prepared, too? Even options offering either the white test or perhaps a bolder, black text could be made available, too? We have a board at: petcraftproject.proboards24.com/index.cgi?board=artncraft where things like this can be offered, too by members of this little sub-group. Perhaps you could email attatch any completed pages as they are done and, if they are offered there to members, I can get the necessary quality paper for printing them on, set up one of the printers here with the special inks needed and purchase suitable packaging tubes etc. for any purchased here? You or I can also then supply mastercopies to other rescues on the board that might like to sell copies for their funds, too? What do others think? Al

I think all of these versions are super, Tracy. I'll post a link in the General Dog Chat thread and see what other members think too? Presumably it is easy enough for girl/boy to be changed according to what someone might wish to order?
As for size, my thoughts would be along the lines of prints that could be framed in a standard sized photo frame - A4 or A5 or even both, perhaps?
If such were being printed to order only, then anyone wishing for a copy could have whatever they wanted? Even a different dog breed perhaps and with whichever verse might be submitted?
I don't really know that much about the photo-editing capabilities of the different programmes, as you are the expert here. Which reminds me... I must change your membership status! What do you fancy? 'Tutor' and then 'Photography/Photo-editing' ? Feel free to make suggestions, okay?
Al

All the images are so beautiful and so fitting as a memorial!
Would the following be a "suitable" contribution?
If it is, I have called it "My Angel" but if you feel something else more appropriate then that's okay.
Where once you lay beside my chair, I reach down now and you’re not there. When once you waited by the door, I come home now, you wait no more.
I worry that you’ve gone from here, But no in truth you’re always near. My boy so faithful, good and true Always with me and I with you.
But now in thoughts and dreams I see Your big brown eyes smile back at me And in my heart until my end A special place for my best friend
Safe at last and free from pain I know one day we’ll meet again. At Rainbow bridge and running free, Angel Boy, please wait for me.

Jo that is wonderful, very touching, you have me weeping. If you would like me to make an image to display your poem (I have no doubt Al will want to use it) then you can send me some pics and I will make a background from them.

So glad you like it Tracymae, and thank you - but sadly I have no decent pics of the boy I was thinking of when I wrote it (a Goldie X), I lost them all in a flood a few years ago. May I ask that if Al wants to use it and wants an image could you use your wonderful artistic touch and create something fitting?

That is really beautiful, when I read the poem the first time I just thought about my dogs who have gone. You have added to it in my opinion, the trees, the sunshine and the chair all fit. You could maybe have the dogs name " ?? Boy, Please wait for me." then it would be a special one for Jo.

Awww Tracymae that is so beautiful, everything is just perfect especially the smiling Goldie!
I love it thank you! (Having a big sniffle here now)
Norma, that's a lovely idea but when I wrote the poem Yesterday, I did it with my old fella Ziggy in mind but did it especially for the group to use as a contribution for the "Pet Memorials" booklet they want to get together.
