I live in WF9 4 - Hemsworth, does anyone on the board either run or know of local dog training classess. Been through local papers & internet & cannot find one. New woofy on the horizon & needs some socialisation. My existing dog also could do with a brush up especially with strange dogs which she does not take kindly to running up & sticking their noses up her bum-normally results in a snarl & promtly sitting down ¬ moving til they've gone. I have a car & not to far from Cudworth/Barnsley, but dont know way around Wakefield or Pontefract.

Our vet has a list of the good trainers in the area and also runs puppy socialization for 7 - 11 week old pups. Try your vet perhaps

Thankyou- my vet is still where I used to live which isn't too far away but the training person is further away in the opposite direction. Have asked locally & possible class nearby. As we haven't got the dog yet & dont know how he travels we wanted to find some where local.

Well we've got the dog & hd him for a few month's now. Travelling is a problem as he is sick every time he goes in the car unless we dont feed him at all. We found a fairly local training class that was far too busy & after attending 3 weeks to spend the 30mins shouting at the poor dog we stopped going. Went back to basics with him as he's a Dog Trust rescue & pulls on the lead. I used all the techniques I've learnt from different people & although we still use a harness he walks nicely, comes bac kwhen called & sits in front. Plays well with other dogs, waits to be fed, will drop his toys when asked. Dont think we're doing too bad but I think he will love agility, he can clear a 6ft jump with no problem (long not high) He's an alsation/greyhound so got the best of both breeds.
