From the bull terrier forum
Here's a snippet from last week's Dog World which makes very worrying reading....also a petition to sign below:
This was in the Rottweilers breed notes:
Olive Davison writes 'Norman and I recently attended a talk arranged by the RC which included the new Animal Welfare Act by Trevor Cooper, a solicitor who has acted in many cases concerning dogs. We came away from this talk under the impression that there are many dog lovers out there who may or may not be aware of some of the implications under this new act. We were informed that the Rottweiler and Dobermann, along with a couple of other breeds, could possibly be the first to feel the full force of the new law. Therefore a petition to the Prime Minister at
petitions.pm.gov.uk/Justice-for-Dogs/?ref=justice-for-dogs
was created with the best interests of all dog lovers.
"This petition will stop specific breeds of dogs being persecuted and ostracized through the irresponsibility of their owners. It is intended to make the owner accountable for their dogs' actions and not the breed collectively. Punish the deed not the breed."
I'm not sure if this is old news but I think the bit about new dogs being added to the DDA breed list is very worrying.
the second paragraph also should be mentioned:
"at the drop of a hat the secretary of state could under the new Animal Welfare Act 2007, put other breeds on the Dangerous Dogs Act. This petition is intended to make the owner responsible for their own dogs actions and behaviour and not for the breed as a whole to be punished for a single dogs behaviour."
