Al had her op yesterday afternoon and is now home, but is feeling very tired and a bit sore. She has had an allergic reaction to the electrodes, the adhesive tape and the radioactive dye they used in the surgery. As a result she has long blistered welts around her, front and back, besides the cuts made by the surgeon. Also her back, as predicted has a trapped nerve causing problems. The next step will be for her to return to the hospital for the results of biopsies done on the lymph nodes that were removed and the other tumours and tissue removed. That will be in about a fortnight, when the oncologist will decide what further treatment she will need. Al's asked me to thank everyone for their good wishes and thoughts, which she appreciates. She also asked me to look at her PMs, and there are a couple which I might need to forward to another admin to answer. She's asked me to say hello to everyone here, and that she'll be back online when able to free her back enough to sit comfortably at the PC.

Thanks for the update Nik, I have been thinking about Al and wondering how she was doing. Sorry to hear about the allergic reactions and trapped nerve, as if she didn't have enough discomfort and pain . Please give her my love and best wishes.

I'm back! Thanks, everyone for all your good wishes, e-cards, emails, PMs and get well soon cards. I shall do my best to follow all the instructions - even the conflicting ones - such as 'hurry back' and 'don't return too soon.' pmsl I don't actually feel ill, but the various pills I'm having to take for the allergic reactions seem to be acting like sleeping pills - odd, as the latter don't work! Must bear in mind that next time I can't sleep, all I need to do is take large doses of anti-histamines. Nik said she will pop in again tonight and if anyone has any stock related queries, please PM her (WarriorNik) and she'll try and answer those. Someone wanted a red Navajo 28" trail harness, I recall, and we do have one of those. We have also had a parcel returned as uncollected from a parcel sorting office. That seems to be goods belonging to Delfinsmum and was posted out early in April, so if anyone is in contact with her, please can they let her know her parcel has come back here? If she can get in touch, we can arrange to send that back again - perhaps to a work address, if that will help? I'm starting to nod off again - what a change, as I'm normally an insomniac! Will return when I am more with it and able to stay awake.

So they sorted the insomnia then!
Apparently, I was told at the weekend, drowsy anti-histamines have an ingredient in them that is part of sleeping tablets, so it might be an idea to have some handy for later.

Glad you are back home. The allergic reaction sounds nasty, Antihistamines knock me out too but maybe it will help you to get the rest that you need and prevent you from doing too much too soon. Look after yourself

My antihistimines always knock me out too. As least they will be good for helping you get some rest. Glad you are home again Al. Thinking of you. They seem to have knocked my brain out so much, that I can't remember where I put the wretched things now! The doc rang me earlier to say he was sending yet another prescription over to the chemist for some ointnment to calm/cool down the allergy rash. Duh! What a performance! I am tempted to ask if the dressings can come off, if I promise not to bite or chew or scratch my stitches out 'cos I swear the allergic reaction to those is a darned site more irritating and more likely to cause an infection than the stitched up surgical cuts if uncovered! Somehow I don't think he'd appreciate my sense of humour, though.

I'm so glad you're back! (and also that I'm neither your doctor nor nurse ) Enjoy the rare sleep - at least when the antihistamines "knock you out" you won't be able to feel the horrid itching!

Thanks, all. Much more back to my usual self today. Took the bull by the horns today, went up the chemist's and bought a stack of hypo-allergenic dressings and various other bits and pieces to tackle replacing the dressings myself and with ex-veterinary nurse Roni's help, rather than wait until Monday, when I was told to get them done. By then the sticky, liquifying adhesive slime that was coating and aggravating the allergy abrasions would likely have caused an infection or else driven me even crazier than I already am! Have now arranged to borrow a couple of Rambo-style combat vests, so the air can get to the affected areas. Will leave it to your imaginations to visualise the effect, what with the bruises, rather too plump biceps (where there once used to be muscles, honest!) and my tats. All I need is a bandanna tied as a sweat band and a machine gun, and I reckon I might resemble, if not quite a movie character, certainly one with some comedy potential for my blog. ;D
