All the toads you could wish to meet over the Rainbow Bridge, Meggie, but try making friends with them there.
No more pain, no more panic attacks, no more allergies, run free and fearless, and with all your faculties now.

It is never an easy decision, and thanks, everyone for posting here. Megan lives on in my signature - a little golden girl.
I thought at first the problem might have been brought on by having to change her diet to the same as Scampi has ad-lib, because I'd run out of her regular food, and that it had upset her system. However, she was drinking huge amounts of water, her belly looked very distended and the weight dropped off her hind quarters literally over-night. She was obviously in pain and distressed, but Roni cuddled her all the way in a blanket as we drove first to the vet's Pontypridd surgery, and then were referred to the Cardiff practice/hospital, as she was very de-hydratated and clearly needed hospitalisation and a drip.
When I got there, and after consultation with the vet there - and in view of her long history of often severe panic attacks and anxiety away from her home environment where she feels secure with her various bolt-holes and hiding places, plus her pal Moss for reassurance - and the likelihood that any tests she was subjected to were unlikely to provide a positive outcome, the vet, Roni (an ex-veterinary nurse) and I all felt it kinder to let her go.
She had nearly ten years of as stress free life as I could give her, even when often she seemed unable to recognise me every day, and especially if I'd been away a day or two. Poor little lass has always been brain-challenged, and had been stuck in the birth canal and was delivered by Caesarian section and bottle reared, which likely accounts for her problems.
I have always said that, if/when anything serious cropped up with her, I'd rather let her go stress free, than put her through further mental traumas or invasive surgery etc.
Sad, because she had a sweet, happy and loving nature when feeling loved and secure, but no regrets. In her case it was the right decision.
For all that, she was one of those dogs that had a death wish, and could never be disuaded from killing anything from a spider or fly, wasp or bee, to poultry, fledglings, mice, rats, frogs and, above all the toads that seem to be attracted to my back yard. Over recent weeks, she had been on a mission and was obsessed by one large toad that kept reappearing in the back yard, and from wherever I tried to tuck it away in the garden and prevent it''s return. Perhaps Megan made toad her final meal? I don't know, but she always had some very bizzare eating habits, and stole the strangest of things from the kitchen at every chance.

Oh bless wee Megan - so sorry to hear about her passing Al, but she had a wonderful life with you and was blessed to be with you.
I think you did the kindest and bravest thing to let her go.
You go get those toads Megan.
