I thought it might be interesting for members to share with one another the highs and lows of 2008, and our hopes and aspirations for 2009. Whether it's life in general, pets, or simply the chance to moan about the weather, what has made 2008 a memorable year for you, or one that you would rather forget?

2008 has definitely been a year to forget for me, and I am glad there are only a couple of weeks left. Maybe 2009 will be better? I hope so at any rate! I think any year where funerals outnumber weddings is a bad one. My Nan was diagnosed with cancer in the spring. A couple of weeks later she had a stroke (unconnected) and never regained consciousness. In June one of my friends died of cancer. She had been given months to live 2 years ago, but she was a fighter. A month or so before this another friend was diagnosed with cancer and given a couple of years to live, but she died last month. We had to have my geriatric cat put to sleep in October, she was at least 20 and has left a huge hole in our lives. I can't bring myself to move her favourite bed yet, even though the other cats never use it. Work quite frankly sucks. The job itself is fine, but the politics are frustrating and ridiculous. The big boss may be a brilliant scientist but he is no manager and has no concept of time management or delegation. To make matters even more cheerful we have been moved into a portacabin for the winter while our offices are being refurbished. Also in the portacabin is a clique led by head bitch. There have been a number of teething problems and it is unpleasant to do a desk job in a poorly insulted barely heated portacabin. I threw my toys out of the pram last Friday when I took a thermometer with me and found it was 12 degrees C when I started work, then went into the ladies and found the water pipes frozen! Changes will be made....... It has been one of those years when everything goes wrong, and there is no time to sort it out. Last time I thought I might have a free few hours at a weekend I had to go and buy a new fridge as the old one died (before that it was the TV which went up in smoke, car going wrong, lorry going wrong etc etc etc!!) It has not all been bad though. I managed to move my pony from a yard where there was a control freak yard owner whose standard of horsemanship was in my opinion somewhat questionable. Unfortunately my husbands horse is still there as he doesn't see any problem with the control freak! Since moving to a different yard I have a much happier pony and I have found a wonderful new instructor who can actually see what makes him tick. He has changed from: to: and is still improving all the time.

2008 Mmm... OH had major stroke in January, I recognised what was happening, was in ICU in a very short time, made a good recovery. Lap top was to help his recovery but wasnt interested, so I decided it was mine,, all mine always wanted one but always busy with sewing. Hadnt a clue to start with, with some help and following my nose, know the basics, can find my way around. Was due for a cataract op. but had to cancel it, not owing whether he could be left. Two months later OH developed a Hernia, but owing to his medication..... Warfarin, has had to wait for surgery, January 20th, hopefully..... then dislodged a vertebrae was in agony, so visiting an osteopath, as well as having regular blood tests to monitor his medication. He did have a phobia of needles, but no more!!!. Before all this happened he never even had a headache. So back to my cataract surgery, couldnt see out of one eye, had one appointment, which was cancelled, but HURRAY, had it done just 3 days ago, looked as if I had gone a couple of rounds with Mike Tyson, but swelling going down, hope to be back to sewing tomorrow......Quite a Year!!!! What do I wish for next year,?? good health for both of us, the rest of my family, what there is left and my dogs. Pat.
