Hello
I am newish here and I don't often post in forums but I just wanted to post and ask people something as I am so upset.
I have a rescue Labradoodle now anyone who has ever met them know sometimes they can be big thick fleece coated dogs which he is.
I was out playing with him in the garden and we have only had a little snow which is now mostly melting and disappearing.
A old lady walked past with a walking stick and a small black poodle. The dog was walking fine but don't know if it was old or not.
Now my dog isn't old, he has a huge thick fleecy coat being a doodle and he HATES being preened and fussed. I have tried him with a coat and he HATED it. He at night in minus 3 degrees lies on the bare cold metal of his crate tray by shoving all his blankets to the other end.
I told my dog to stay in the close position and wait for the old lady and dog to pass out of respect and courtesy. She looked over at us and gasped. and SNIDELY and nastily said
"that poor dog is freezing you are being so cruel don't you think it needs a coat on." "how would you like to be stood in the snow with no coat on.
a) I am sorry but I wasn't born with a already thick wooly fleecy coat.
b) my dog dislikes them don't you think it is even crueler to drag a dog round screaming by putting a coat on it.
I nicely explained "aw my dog doesn't like them and if he was that cold he would be screaming and trying to get back into the house (my front door was wide open btw nowt stopping him from doing so)
"Ah well the woman replied I think you are cruel"
So I snapped "love my dog is not cold or old. He is not poorly he doesn't need to wear a coat in my opinion. Dogs work in freeezing cold climates. He isn't bald he has a thick curly fleece.
She just annoyed me so much.
I have no objection to dogs wearing coats, my other dog has a coat a red pawprint one from here but he WANTS TO wear the coat and loves it. This dog does not.
I am sorry I just feel so upset right now.
Do people think ALL dogs need fabric coats and am I being cruel by not making my dog wear a coat who does not want to
