We've had a wildlife pond in the garden for some years but have had it in mind for some time to make a bigger one. A digger has been doing some work on another project so we took the opportunity to have a pond dug whilst it was here. The liner is being delivered tomorrow so it will be all hands on board to get it in place. Watch this space.

How exciting, Uff, are we to get a pictorial progress report, please? Our 'water feature' will need a great deal of work yet, but this is what it looks like at present! Now it is your turn to show. Attachments:

Yes OD if anyone is interested I'll post a pic of progress. The liner was delivered on time and we got it in place and started the process of filling it.
It will take some time because we have a complicated water supply and can only run the water for about 2 hours before our tank empties.

I timed how long it takes to fill a bucket under the trickle from the stream today - about 10 minutes! Of course, the bucket doesn't capture it all, only what flows into the shooting. Not sure how long that will take to fill a pond, once we dig one. We first aim to drop the level under the shooting and disguise a half-barrel as a well, using some of the stones and rubble. That's so we can dip the horses water buckets in it. It will be designed to be a leaking well, though.

Perhaps I should have put this pic at the beginning, in fact I'm sure I should. Anyway, this is progress so far with the wildlife pond. I got Tara to sit on the left to give a sense of scale. As you can see filling it is going to be a long job. Eventually rain water from the roof of the barn will run into it to keep it topped up. Have to think about landscaping it next. Preferably wild stuff but need to think about the birds and berries too. Attachments:

That's not a pond, it is a swimming pool, Uff! Has Tara tried it out yet? ;D Our stream seems to have dried up suddenly. A sign of how little rain we have had lately, I guess? It ran all last summer, though. We are having to haul water in the little bowser for the horses now. Dai is going to see if he can get a much bigger one, and has bought a pump to fill it from the river. Our underground spring is still running, though, down in the corner of the field. There is a pool down there about 3' deep, according to Dai today. He went on a recce, but doesn't think his pump will be strong enough to pump water from that up to the yard.

I'll brain her if she goes in that ruddy pond. She adores water and goes mental when she's allowed to go in the sea for a swim.
Wouldn't it be great if you could pump the water up from the bottom of the field. Have you thought about buying a second hand one OD?

I leave the technology stuff to Dai, Uff. Besides, it's rarely necessary to haul water, and the current bowser usually only needs filling occasionally. It has just been rather dry of late here.

Right, that's it - Ducks and Geese have packed their little backpacks and are off to you, not talking to me anymore.... What a "pond"!! I wish I could have that on the field for the waterfowl!!!
We hardly had any rain lately either - the brook is running pretty low and our rainwater-collecting thingy is getting very low, too. We'll soon have to cart lots of water to the field again....
