This is the list of attempted dog thefts i have compiled together.
Number 1:-
This is taken from Terrier Talk.
"I live in a quiet village in Devon, out in the country, about 20 miles from Plymouth. Yesterday (3rd July 2006) at about midday I heard someone at the gate of my driveway whistling & calling (as if for a dog) - the gate is about 50 feet from the front door. I went out to see who it was & found a blonde-haired child of about 7-8, with a jewel in his pierced left nostril & dabs of what appeared to be pink nail varnish in a line across his cheek. He asked whether I had a Jack Russell terrier (yes), & was it the dog he was taking for a walk tomorrow (no!!!), & could he see him, how old was he, what was his name, etc...? I called the dog out of the house & the child started to try & get in, at which point. I stopped him because I suddenly thought how odd this all was. This was happening during school hours, the child was not recognisably any of the village children that I knew, & was certainly of a notably 'different' appearance. Was I (& the dog) being distracted away from the house? Or was the dog being checked out? (When I told the child the dog was 7, he seemed surprised & said he looked about 3) & as fast as it had all happened, the child just ran away. I went & looked down the lane & saw one (old & roughish) car I didn't recognise parked close by, but no one visible."
This happened in Blackawton, Totnes (TQ9) & it could happen anywhere. Please do no tell give information about your dog to anyone.

The owner popped his head in a restaurant a couple of doors away to ask if anyone saw anything, he immediately saw a woman pushing the dog under the table trying to hide it. He grabbed his dog but the woman was very argumentative insisting it was her dog & trying to start a fight. The police were called but the woman fled in a car with another car.
