I'm so sorry to hear this People are just really horrible sometimes I fortunately haven't had a burglary in the house, but did have my room burgled when I was a student nurse They only took a few things - a small B&W portable TV, and a few personal bits - one was a wooden letter opener which a friend had brought me back from Africa, it was carved with a Rhino at one end so was very special to me. The TV was replacable but that was not. The thought that someone had been in the room made me feel that the whole room and everything in it was dirty - soiled in some way. I never felt happy there again, I had a chain fitted to the door and even then didn't like going to sleep at night. I was only 19 at the time too. I just can't imagine having your house burgled and everything turned upside down.

I am so sorry to hear this, Carol, and really feel for you. It is an awful feeling to have lost anything in this way. I've had a car stolen in the past, a lovely old Austin that had only just been through its MOT and it was found burnt out in the forestry. Another time an old Ford estate used to be regularly 'borrowed' but returned and parked, usually badly, in roughly the same place as it had been, but unlocked and sometimes with the window/s left open. The police were convinced I was imagining it, I think, but I was fairly sure I knew who was responsible. A local lad who seemed to have keys that would fit any old Ford and a passion for late night take away food/a girlfriend a few miles away! Only when he moved did the problem cease. Have also had things stolen back in the 80s when I had a business. Again, I had suspicions as to who was responsible, but no proof. The police only went through the motions and nothing was recovered. I do hope that you soon recover your scooter, undamaged and intact.

As I recall, the key to that particular old Ford was so worn itself, that it would open almost any Ford and other car's doors. A couple of times I encountered people in car parks who had locked their keys in their cars, so I offered it to them to try. They were grateful but also horrified at how easy their cars were to access with a different key. I have also managed to lock the keys inside my old Savanna and managed to get into that with a length of that stiff tape used to strap boxes and packing cases. Hope I never do the same with my old Merc, though. I have enough trouble sometimes trying to get into that with the correct keys! Much of the winter only one door lock was operational, as they others were so stiff and my hands/grip poor due to arthritis I couldn't turn the key! Any news about your scooter, Carol?

I know back in the mid 80s Vauxhall Cavaliers were very popular fleet cars. A friend's father worked for a company with about 30 of these cars. One of the employees locked himself out - so they tried the other keys. Shockingly they discovered that there were only 6 different keys and locks!! so a lot of them could open each other's cars Quite scary really. Your Ford key sounded extremely useful...

Hope your scooter makes it back in one piece, Carol. We've never been burgled, although I think we've come close. It must be horrendous

Well no news about my scooter it must be a demand for the parts as it's a strange one so not very common ,today is getting all the documents to the insurance company & letting the cops know of any distinguishing marks ( stickers to me) i was wondering if it went when we went shopping early last week as we went in the camper so there would have been space for a van & no one would have seen as all their curtains would have bee en shut & no one up ..sometimes it's no good living in a quiet area
