Ok Cockers www.cockersonline.co.uk/discuss/index.php?topic=1987.0Also www.cockersonline.co.uk/discuss/index.php?board=46.0 lists ones in rescues www.prodogsdirect.org.uk/homepagepdd.htm have a cocker and 3 Westies coming in - they seem to take puppy farm dogs so not sure how you feel about that? Westies, Cockers and Bichons are quite high maintenance with their coats - generally clipped in pet homes. You might want to inquire locally as to the cost. Westies and Cockers are generally quite vocal - you need understanding neighbours! They also need a lot of exercise and stimulation for their size. Bichons do not need as much - but can be a problem when out as other dogs are inclined to chase them - think small, white and fluffy...some breeders insist that they are never let off lead for that reason which seems a dreadful shame. You probably know all that anyway but just in case If you're open to Terriers, how about a Border? - they are about the healthiest Terrier breed {actually one of the healthiest pedigree breeds}. Generally really nice temperament {for a terrier! LOL - remember the working origins}, coat needs hand stripping but only about 3 times a year and you can learn to do this yourself. Worth watching here www.borderterrierwelfare.org.uk/page3.htmbut also general rescues. I had Westies in the past, very prone to cruciate ligament problems and skin issues {say Westie to any vet and they will say "skin" and rub their hands with glee, much like they do when you walk in with a Cavalier! We keep ours in houses let alone cars } , www.westierescuescheme.org.uk/mainindex.htmwww.bichonfriserescue-henrysfund.co.uk/page_1089790.htmlobviously also from the kennel club link LDR often have Bichons, Borders and Westies - and some wonderful mixes - I adore this wee fellow thelittledogrescue.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ourdogs&action=display&thread=6915&page=1Of course Cavaliers are the BEST wee dogs of all, you couldn't have a more loving companion, adore everyone and everything, and spoil you for having any other breed...but they do have some serious health issues... Alternatively what about a wee Whippety type person??

JAZZ !!!!
I know of a gorgeous 1yr boy looks like a GSD - but small sized - lovely with dogs & kids, possibly be OK with cats after introduction.
Sounds perfect ... he is honestly just like a mini GSD and everso friendly! In foster with dog / cat / kids.
In Northampton so not too far at all !!
I saw him at the weekend - he's gorgeous !

And there is always a certain head-case of a JRT waiting here to be 'lost', Jazz. ;D It's latest adventure occured last Wednesday when my ex called into a local farm where they have rare breeds, and had Gyp with him - luckily on a lead. There she encountered a nanny goat and, much to everyone's surprise, didn't attack it or bark at it... Instead, she headed straight for its udder and tried to suckle!!!
