Although a few of us have tried very hard to keep the weekly quizzes going on this Forum in Al's memory, it is becoming very obvious that we really don't have enough active members any more To be successful and not too onerous for any one person or group, the quizzes really need a range of volunteers to set and adjudicate them, a wider group of people willing to try answering the questions each week, and, particularly, a substantial number of people willing to provide and post the prizes. Last week I had the good fortune to visit Eileen Jones, who runs the Friends of the Animals RCT rescue in South Wales, and who has been the grateful recipient of several recent prizes. When I explained our difficulties to her, she immediately offered the use of the FOA RCT Forum for the quizzes They have 1,212 members and quite a few have already expressed an interest, including some who have already offered prizes. Eileen herself has kindly offered to provide all the prizes for the very first quiz, whenever that turns out to be. For more information about the FOA RCT Forum, have a look at it on foa-rct.proboards.com/index.cgi?So what I would now like to propose is that we complete the present series of quizzes on the TRPD Forum up to the end of May, then maybe take a break in June (unless anyone is desperately keen to take it over on here and carry on). All being well, we should be able to start with FOA RCT no later than July. Whizzie has kindly offered to send an email to everyone on the TRPD Forum to let them know of the changes, but I would prefer to wait a little while longer until we know the definite start date and so on. What do you all think then?

Phew! So relieved to see these responses - and I know alfiesmum is in agreement too. Thanks everyone for your support. Will go ahead and negotiate further with FOA RCT then. Watch this space and thank you very much for your support See you at 8.30 tonight as well!

I agree - more supported is needed to make the quizzes work well & it just isn't here.
Most people came to this forum initially to buy Al's lovely products & as sadly they can no longer do that I think people have drifted away.
There are lots of old threads on the forum too which make it all rather confusing but I've never felt it my place to delete/archive them, especially as I was only an Administrator for a few weks before Al died
I feel sure Al would be pleased that the quizzes continued to benefit rescues and she wouldn't mind that it was no on this forum

Sounds like a good idea to carry the quizzes on, benefitting various rescues, on a busier forum. I've not been able to join in on the quizzes, as Sunday evening is never very good for me as I'm usually busy finishing up essential weekend tasks, and getting ready for work the next morning. By the time I've got around to looking at the quizz, it's all answered and done with. I shall be sorry if the forum ends. But agree, it was driven by Al's amazing personality and energy, and her skills in making and selling such fabulous dog items. Given I know I'll have missed the quizz by the time I get a chance to look, there's not really any other incentive for me to log in. And to be honest, each time I do, it makes me so sad that Al is not around any longer; we were of an age If the forum were to close, would you warn members by email beforehand? I would probably want to save 1 or 2 of my messages.

It will be sad to see the quizzes go, but far better to hold them where there are a good number of active members. I am sorry that I have not been around much lately, the new job that I started in January has proved to be very demanding so by the time I get home every evening (late!) I really don't want to spand much time on the PC! I'd like to wish you all well with the future.

Looks like tonight will be the last quiz in this series then, sadly.
As I have had to give my beloved oldie Cavalier, Megan, her wings this week, I'd like to have "special prizes" in her memory, so have donated 10 x £5 Postal Orders for the winning nominated rescues.
Megan has been with me since she was 5 months old and was 12 1/2 when she died on Thursday. In that time she has been "aunt" to countless other dogs, both permanent residents and passing through guests. Thanks to her calm and dignified manner and wonderfully loving temperament, they have all been helped to settle in.
I am in touch with Eileen Jones from FOA RCT about starting up the quizzes on their forum and will let you all know, both on this forum and, hopefully, by email when we can resume them.
Thank you all for trying to keep things going in memory of Al and hope as many of you as possible will join us in our new forum.
All best, Marie-Anne

Thank you for all your messages of sympathy. Megan was certainly a very special "soulmate". We have been through so many ups-and-dpwns together (both hers, ours and others). Thought you would like to see this picture of her wearing the blanket that Al sent when we won a photographic competition, which was my first introduction to TRPD and Al herself. I kept her PMs at the time - they were lovely. You will no doubt be pleased to hear that Eileen has said we can start the quizzes on FOA RCT on Sunday 3rd July - but before that I will make sure we have an up to date list of rescue contact details and possibly change the start time to earlier in the evening - say 6.30 pm? Then Whizzie and I will circulate everybody with the new arrangements.
