This is my contribution.
Snowy and his PrincessLooking in the shop window, the little girl saw the cute little puppies in the box.
There were 7 of them altogether, mostly brown but some were brown and white.
She was holding her Daddy's hand tight, she didn't see him very often he was always working late.
He looked at this little girl and said "Princess..what do you want for Christmas, you can have anything you like. Daddy loves you".
The little girl looked at the pups and fixed her gaze on the one with the most white on it.
"I want that one Daddy, he has lots of white and looks Christmassy".
So into the shop they go....10 minutes later they came out with the pup in a cardboard pet carrier and a dog bed which had been loaded with dog stuff (collar, lead, food/drinking bowls, toys, treats, big bag of food etc...).
The little girl decided to call the pup Snowdrop (snowy) for short.
Christmas came, Snowy was having the time of his life. He was being cuddled all the time, loads of people came to see him, they all fell in love with him.
He slept on his little princess's bed, he loved his life.
January came, Daddy had to go back to work and princess had to go to school. Snowy found himself in a situation that he didn't understand or like.
He was being left alone for most of the time now, no princess to play with him all day, even when she came home from school she didn't really play anymore.
Mummy was still there but mummy had never really liked Snowy so she just ignored him. Snowy had learnt to stay out of her way.
Princess came home from school and he would go to her for cuddles, she would pat his head and then carry on with whatever else she wanted to do.
Snowy didn't know what he had done wrong....why was he suddenly not liked anymore.
By the end of February Snowy had learned not to bother to go to anyone for love or cuddles anymore, he just stayed in his bed and tried to look like the cute pup in the shop window.
He just about got his bowl of food each day (if someone could be bothered to do it) and clean water every couple of days.
He never went outside for walks or to play in the garden with Princess, he was shoved out about 3 times a day for toilet time that's all.
Snowy lived this life for the next 8 months, he lost the shine to his coat and the glint in his eyes. He was nearly a full sized dog now, still not large but not the little pup he was once.
By October Snowy wasn't living....he was existing. Being ignored mostly unless he happened to get in someone's way, then he would be shouted at and sometimes kicked out of the way.
He was fed on the odd occasions that his family remembered he was there. He was not happy.
November was here and Christmas was just around the corner.
Daddy took Princess to the shops to see what she wanted for her big present.
"Oh daddy look at those cute little kittens....daddy can I have one please".
_________
Snowy found himself being put in the car, he had not been in the car since the day he had been taken from the shop.
He decided this was good and he was going on an adventure.
Princess didn't come with them, she had come home with a box and was so engrossed with what was inside that she raced upstairs without a single hello to anyone.
The drive was quite a long one, Snowy wondered where they were going and what was at the other end.
When the car finally stopped Snowy wagged his tail in anticipation, Daddy opened the door and told Snowy to get out.
Snowy looked about, he could see tree's, lots of tree's.
Daddy said "Go on the Snowy...go and play".
Snowy raced into the tree's, he didn't go very far though, he didn't like to be on his own.
He looked back.....where was the car.....where had Daddy gone.
He rushed back to the road, it was empty.
Snowy sniffed the ground, could he pick up Daddy's scent....NO, daddy didn't get out of the car.
Snowy spent weeks walking round looking for his family, he was very thin and frail now as he was only finding scraps to eat.
__________
Snowy was in a terrible way, he was thin, dirty, itchy and his paws were cut and hurting from all the walking he had been doing, he couldnt remeber the last time he had slept properly...he HAD to find his family again.
During the summer months some hikers were on a ramble.
Two ladies were chatting as they walked.....one stopped dead in her tracks and gasped. She had seen what she thought was a dead dog lying under a bush.....she looked closer, there was a breath, she saw it...a definite breath.
She called her friend and between them they gently took the dog from under the bush, wrapped him in a coat to keep him warm and ended their walk early. They took the little dog to the local vet.
The vet said the dog was about a year or so old and lucky to still be alive as he was in such a state.
The vet took care of Snowy for a few days until he was stronger, then one of the ladies came back and took Snowy home to her house.
He was cared for like he had not know for a long time. He liked this lady but she kept calling him Lucky. He got used to it though.
Lucky/Snowy lived a very happy life with his new owner for many, many years but he always wondered what he had done wrong for little Princess to abandon him so willingly, what had been in that box that day?
