Just a thought, but perhaps someone experienced could post some simple instructons in this thread for those who have never done cross-stitch before? Also a few handy tips may not come amiss. It's quite simple if you start off with an easy, small project. The more experienced stitchers often like a more challenging design, such as that lovely palomino horse shown in another of the threads. Little cards with only a few colour changes are perhaps the simplest projects to start with, and can often be picked up cheaply in sewing shops or on a market stall. Cross Stitch Gallery magazine often has lots of simple designs and only costs about £2.95, I think. They also publish easy to follow instructions in each issue, with clear illustrutions. I'd suggest that those new to cross-stitching try a first project using a pale coloured aida fabric of 11 or 14 count. Darker fabrics, especially navy blue and black, are more challenging to stitch onto but for those without perfect eyesight, there are special magnifying accessories and lights available to help. Al

Al, I know that we have discussed this and I have an introduction to cross stiching almost finished. I just want to add some diagrams/pictures and then we'll be ready to rock and roll ;D And just out of interest, the Sploit Dog charts are quite easy to sticth up with a few slightly more challenging parts. All in all, they are a week's stitching tops and produce a very nice little picture Jane x

Any news on this? I've always fancied cross stitch but have no idea how it's done

I'm not sure, Anne, as Jane must now have a little baby, perhaps worth emailing her, but failing that, there are good, clear instructions and simple designs for a novice always in a magazine calle Cross-Stitch Gallery.

There are often free kits attached to the magazines and Cross-Ctitch Gallery has some really nice little ones regularly.
