I received a message earlier about the situation in Cumbria with the storms and floods, including the following... Many parts of Cumbria have suffered and we are told that tonight is going to be bad again.
It's raining very heavily as I write this. The river is still very, very high so fingers crossed that we don't get a repeat of Friday's flood's.
I was up at the Trailhound Trust this morning to set 2 pups and an adult trailie on their way to the Dogs Trust down south. Peter has had the kennel roof torn off and is surrounded by water as well as being full to busting with hounds. I feel so sorry for him battling away there on his own.
He is always most grateful for the parcels that find their way to him from TRPD either as quiz prizes or donations.I'll try to keep members updated with any further updates about the situation there and, should anyone wish to send donations to help the Lakeland Trail Hound Trust with repairs etc., Please email me alison@trpd.co.uk and I can let you have their address. Peter seems to run the Lakeland Trail Hound Trust largely on his own, so I feel sure he'd be most grateful for any support, especially at this time. Al

I wish I was closer to be able to help in any way. What sort of things does he need?

I've told Sallyanne (Eileen from the Trailie Trust) that this thread has been started so when she gets a minute perhaps she will give us an idea Eileen does an absolutely wonderful job of liasing with racing owners to get their dogs in for re-homing, finding homes and rescue places for the trailies along with a very long list of other things. And I know she will tell me off for blowing a trumpet for her on here - but she DOES deserve it coz she's an Marion

I've just spoken with Peter on the phone and gather that the roof from once kennel block was blown right off and tiles from another building (barn, I think) also blew off, resulting in rain getting in and onto the electric wiring. (That bit has now been repaired as an emergency!) One of the doors to another kennel building has also been blown off, so it sounds as if the repair work is likely to run into several hundred pounds - and they are still being subjected to 90 mph gales! The most pressing need at the moment is therefore funds to help with the repair costs. If anyone would like to run an auction here on the site to help with this, (Marion, perhaps you'd like to take that on?), I'm more than willing to get on the sewing machine/hunting through the cupboards for some lots. To start with, if you wish to 'Grab' all the items listed for the Christmas sale and post those to a new auction thread (without reserves) to give things a start, that's fine by me. Perhaps other members have items they could donate too? A few unwanted Christmas presents etc? Al

Just spoken to Peter again tonight and he sends his thanks for your concerns and thoughts about the situation at the Trust. Things could have been a lot worse and the main thing is that the dogs and Peter himself are ok. The winds are very bad again in Cumbria and fingers crossed there is no more damage caused tonight. Peter doesn't get any funding and runs the Trust mainly out of his pension. I do all the admin and phoning and organising the hounds into the Trust and then the re-homing. Thanks to Marion for your kind remarks and also for what you do to help us with transport etc. Without people like yourself, I wouldn't be able to get these lovely dogs into their forever homes. I have been helping Peter now for the past nine years and between us we have managed to re-home over 600 Trailhounds. I keep in touch with as many of them as I can and Iam always on call for advice and any problems. It has been a hard slog in many ways to get the Hound Trailing Association to accept that Trailhounds make wonderful pets and we are very proud of the number we have managed to re-home. Thank you all again for the past donations and gifts we have received at the Trust and also again to Marion for always donating to us from the Quiz. It is all very much appreciated.

I will come back this afternoon and start it up - need to get some jobs out of the way and the woofies walked first so I can concentrate on this. Marion
