Well, I got my camera to work briefly - just for a couple of shots to show how Bronnie, the yearling filly I bought last year as a companion for Merlyn, is developing, now that she is a two-year-old. Bronnie: ...and one of the latest aquisition, a little 11hh 'allotment pony', Daisy, which I bought in a weak moment last week and for my grandson to learn to ride on... ...and then the camera packed up again... They are quite similar, but Bron has a much thicker tail - poor little Daisy's is much thinner, wispy and straight haired, whereas Bron's is like a great thick brush! I wanted to get some of Daisy's face, but she was still scoffing and then the camera died again. Her head is much more like an old fashioned section A Welsh pony's, whereas Bron's more of a section C type. When she matures, it looks as if she will be quite stocky, especially if her shoulders broaden out to match her quarters.

Bronnie is looking much more mature - and she is looking happier too, I am sure she will fill out. Tali's shoulders have broadened to the point where the rugs that fitted him during the winter are now all too small and he is 8 now (he has also outgrown his saddles which is not good news). Daisy looks sweet. How old is she?

Daisy is only 11 - 11.1hh and is a 6 year old, Ruth.
I'm discovering that she is a bit 'sour-faced' in the stable and very possessive over her bucket feeds!
I had the blacksmith out yesterday to trim her feet, so they are looking a lot better in the photo than they were. She was a bit of a madam having her feet done, too, and has a lot to learn about manners and being handled - although is quiet on a lead rein.
However, she is already greeting me in the mornings with an 'I'm hungry' whinney, and, once I have managed to get a headcollar on her in the stable, seems to enjoy a bit of T-touch and massage, so is responding to me a bit already.
I've not yet been able to try her tack on, but the bridle looks far to big, and there's obviously been pressure on her withers at some point from an ill-fitting saddle, so I'll have to check that - once she's ready and sound enough to do that, after her excursion jumping into the river!

I have made a start mouthing Bronnie now and getting her used to the breaking tack, with the aim of long-reining her a little this year, then perhaps next year introducing her to driving, although just a little, as she's still a lot of growing to do, but is a bit of a character and seems ready now to learn some manners, if nothing else. She seems to be taking to it very well, and hasn't batted an eyelid yet about the tack going on, or the bridle. owing to me having to be extremely careful at the moment with infections, and the amount of burrs both Bron and Merlyn have been gathering in their manes every day from rolling in the darned things, and the time it was taking daily (about an hour twice a day) to remove then, and ending up with them turning septic in my fingers, I took the decision to hog the pair of them! My goodness what a revelation seeing Bronnie hogged! No one believes she's only a two-years old now, and a dealer came onto me thinking her at least 3 or 4 and wanting to buy her! Of course, she's not for sale, but really does look as if she will make a very smart little driving pony. She is rapidly developing a powerful, arched neck now, and muscling up in front. I can hardly wait to see what she will be like this time next year. She moves really well, too. ;D
