I would like to nominate Ceredigion Animal Rescue and Education as the next charity to benefit please. We are a small charity in West Wales and urgently need to raise funds for a special appeal. Please meet Sam: Sam recently ended up in our care. He is a 3 year old German Short Haired Pointer. He is a little nervous when meeting new people but if he can approach in his own time he is very friendly. He is good with cats and is in foster in the middle of a farming area but taking no notice of the sheep! Now for the bad news. Sam had a limp which did not get any better so we took him to the vet. He could not put any weight on his front leg. Sam had x-rays and has been found to have suffered a major trauma to his shoulder – so bad that the bone has crumbled. It appears that this happened some time ago so poor Sam has been suffering for a long time. This can be remedied by an operation to cut the nerves, which will stop the pain for Sam. The operation is going to cost us £800 and is the only treatment that will help Sam. For a small rescue this is a lot of money, which could be spent helping a lot of other dogs with neutering, minor treatments etc, but there is no way we are going to have such a lovely dog pts so we are determined to find the money somewhere. We are arranging boot sales, a sponsored walk, a summer BBQ and quiz, and have approached the local newspapers in the hope they can generate some donation to help.

A very sad update on Sam. He had his op yesterday and all went extremely well until they were about to put the last screw in when he went into cardiac arrest. The vet and nurses battled for a very long time to save him without success. Naturally we are all devastated with this news, but have no regrets trying it as the poor dog was in such pain that the only alternative would have been pts, and at least for his last few months he had love, company, fun and a group of people desperate to make things better for him. We still have the bill to pay.

OK We have had nominations for the following rescues. CARE 4 Pawz & More Little Dog Rescue Wiccaweys Bernwood Springer Animal Helpline (Wansford) Rescue Remedies Friends of the Animals Wales
I would like to suggest a change for the next 2-3 months (May,June,July). Taking the list in the order shown, each rescue will receive a £40 assorted box (selected by the Rescue Rep) as the tokens mount up. So if 80 tokens are earn't in May then the first 2 rescues will all receive a package and so on. There are 8 rescues on the list so we need to get spending to raise 320 tokens by end of July.

I am quite happy to go along with whatever others here feel is best.
However, being one with frequent senior moment's ;D, the simpler things can be made for me, the better. Therefore, I'd like to suggest that the winning rescues, or their representatives, simply select items to the value won from the sales list, and in the normal way, but quoting that they are won as prizes from the specific month's sales challenge, and in green text. That way the rescues concerned get what they most need, and I can simply get it sent out in the usual way.
Perhaps we can put together a mass email explaining how this works, and as simply as possible, and also email copies to the rescues themselves, so that they can also help to spread the word to their supporters?
Sales at present seem to be very slow, and cash flow could really do with a boost. Some confusion over an order for fittings occurred, and an order I placed early in April wasn't despatched until almost the end of the month, and when then due for payment! This is going to stretch the funds to the limit. Also, we now have two sewing machines out of action and in need of repairs that I'm not skilled enough to see to. I'm estimating a bill of around £120 for their repair, so have not taken them in yet for the necessary work. Will just carry on using what machines I have available in working order, and do what I can with the available materials and fittings.
We also have an order in the pipeline for more INAH webbing, but that will be in 3/4" width this time, and at the old price. The price for the 1" INAH web, we were warned a while ago, would increase dramatically. This because wew were previosly able to use web stock the supplier had purchased in bulk and at a very favourable rate, which they passed on to us. To be suitable for printing, the quality has to be good and the web polyester, as otherwise the ink/dye would not take, and just rub off if applied to a polyprop web.
All in all, it means one thing... we need more sales and to increase our cash flow!

Will ammend above to show that rescues must select their own items for the £40 value as they win them.

Thanks, Dorian. It probably makes more sense that way, as they will be able to choose the items they most need, and in the sizes they are short of.

Hi ... I'm a new girl and do not understand tokens. Could I nominate GLWR for something? We are currently running an appeal for one of our homed dogs, Belle who needs an expensive op on a pre-existing leg problem There's a link to Kent Greyhound Welfare who are running the raffle for us on the boards here, which also explains Belle's story. What do I need to do to raise tokens? Sorry if it is explained somewhere on here but I am trawling my way through all the threads to try and get a handle on this Rescue Rep thing and am a bit boggled Thanks, Gaby

Each month we have a couple of rescues that benefit from the teams' sales challenge competition. Whichever team's members get the highest sales for the month, have a £25 parcel of goodies for a rescue, and all sales gain tokens worth 10% of their sales, and to spend on parcels of items thye need. I think those rescues for May have been chosen, but your rescue will be able to go on the waiting list for the next available month's sales challenge. I don't organise these, but feel sure someone will correct anything I've said if need be. ;D

I would like to nominate HULA Animal Rescue please. At the moment they have an English Bull Terrier in called Jack. He has been in their care since Autumn, he is an Ex-HULA dog who's owner fell ill, and he had to be returned. Except, he had severe[really really bad] Mange, he had no fur at all and his skin was red raw and painful. Since then he is still undergoing expensive treatment for his skin and he has eye issues too which involve daily eyedrops. This is Jack

They are OK rehoming him themselves, he is an ex-dog of theirs, so even though he's obv changed in the couple of years he was in his home, hes still a dog they know. Plus all the staff and volunteers are too attached to him. He isn't a normal dog by any means[not in any bad sense of the words, in that he is his own breed] Everyone loves him, and hopefully once his health issues are sorted he'll be off to a home, he really WONT be waiting long plenty of people have fallen in love with him, bless him. We've nicknamed him Jackers Crackers

I will need the addresses for the following, please: Kent Greyhound Welfare & Greyhound Rescue Wales. Also, do any of these have a 'Wish List', please? We will need to put these rescues into the 'Wish List' Project, so that, at the eand of each month, when sales are assessed, we can allocate to them in due course.

I will add them to the list, but please remember, we can only donate items we actually make here, although possibly members may have other items spare that they might be able to donate as individuals. For that reason I'll leave the full list as is. Please will you PM me the full postal address, thanks.
