In January, the nominated rescue to benefit from our sales was Rescue Remedies, but which rescue do you feel should benefit in February? Perhaps a sighthound one, as Rescue Remedies had mainly terriers and staffy crosses in their care? Please *put the case for the rescue of YOUR choice in this thread. Thanks. If there are several put forward, then we will ru a poll to decide, but the plan at this stage is that for every four coats/raincoats sold, we will donate one to this nominated rescue. *Probably almost every rescue is struggling at the moment, so please tell us all why the one you wish to benefit in February is especially deserving? Perhaps they have a number of special cases in, and that you could post photos etc. Thanks.

I would like to nominate Northants Greyhound Rescue, if I may. They are always inundated with greyhounds and sometimes really struggle with rehoming. I'm sure that Mandy Hooker, who runs it, would be thrilled. Thank you.

Whichever rescue is chosen, can their representative please make sure they post on the forum to acknowlegde receipt, and once the parcel has been stated as despatched, thanks. (So often this doesn't happen, and I know that members then tend to block off about supporting that rescue again in the future.)

well if we picking Dog coat rescues then i nominate Greyhound Gap (if thats allowed, i dunno whose around and who isnt) or Labrador Retriever Rescue (do labs wear coats? mine just refuses to go out in the wet lol)
as cats/kittens dont need coats rofl
I go find out if theres anything specific we as a cat rescue could use that TRPD could help with (as i know we always need flea (spot on) type treatments but thats not very helpful here is it rofl

Perhaps next month we could ask for cat rescue nominations for blankets, or run a project for all cat rescues - perhaps toys and blankets? We'll think of something so that the cats don't miss out. Greyhound Gap benefitted over Christmas from parcels from TRPD & members, and Lurcher Link also has in the past, whereas the Northants Grehound Rescue, I don't think has yet. One thing about our coats, is that they tend to last several years, and unless ripped up by dogs. Scampi's current coat has done over four years and still looks like new, and he wears his a lot when out.

I wasnt here then so didnt know GG had benefitted so i go with whatever  just checked, small blankets be good for cats so they can go with the cat to its new home or (founder suggested this) cat sized harnesses and leads so cats/kittens can go outside supervised now am sure thats something TRPD could do

Right then, this month we'll have Northants Greyhound Rescue as the one to benefit from coat & raincoat sales. For every four we sell, we will donate one to them, so please, everyone, treat your dog to a nice new coat or raincoat and ask all your friends and relations to do the same. I'll get busy on the sewing machine tonight to make some more to fill in the gaps of the list with, and now that Jane's picked the ones they need for Rescue Remedies' rescued dogs, which I'll get posted out ASAP. Thanks, Jane, and special thanks to everyone who helped make the donation of 10 coats/raincoats possible for Rescue Remedies.

Because of the time of year, I was thinking that perhaps a general parcel of items might be of more use to the nominated rescue for March, and instead of coats. Perhaps things like collars, leads and harnesses. What do you think?
At the moment, I don't have a range of patterns to make the style of coat that you have shown in the photos, Dyane. It's something that I do hope to develop, if possible, and Redelmo kindly send me a larger, grehound style pattern that could perhaps be adapted. It's just a case of time and the ability to get up into the workshop to be able to develop this idea, and others, further.

The parcel is a really good idea Al & as for the coats that would be brilliant for a future project. I know many dogs arrive at the rescues all over the country with no collars etc & it can be a drain on the rescue funds to supply these when the dogs are rehomed

Didn't we say that March was going to be cat month ?
Perhaps I can make a suggestion. If the prize this month is to be an assorted box of items, why not have two boxes, one for a dog rescue and one for a cat rescue. It could be run along the lines of the supermarket charity box tokens scheme. One token say for every £10 spent in the auction. Each token is worth £1 and that establishes the value of the donation to each rescue. Buyers can say if they want sales to count for cat or dog but the final decision is with the Team Captains. This way all sales from each group count. Also sales to buyers not in a group will be claimed by the Indies. (By the way Al, after her sterling purchases the last two months, I think Dyane (Joedee) should be Vice Captain of Indies).

Funny you should say that, Dorian, I was also thinking along the lines of having two rescues - a cat and a dog one, this month. I am all for it BUT, please can someone else volunteer to organise that, so that at the end of the month they can simply tell me the result and where and to what value to send the parcels? I ask because I suspect I'm having a bit of a relapse on the Fybromyalgia front, as extremely tired, and unless it's just a case of around 10 months of various treatments catching up on me! (Of course, it could also be old age... ;D ) Whatever, if I can just concentrate on quietly making stuff up, and clearing things here at my own pace, and without too much pressure, I think it will be a big help. Thanks.

Your wish is my command, Dorian. ;D Now, of course, the other team captains will want to nominate vice captains too.

I'll take up the challenge of organizing it.
So is everyone happy with two rescues, one dog and one cat this month, receiving an assorted box each. If yes I'll post full details later.
