There should be a couple of the geraniums in the bag. They soon grow quite large, too! Spead can be as much as a foot in the first year, larger in the second. Two years ago I split one plant into 29, and they are now all as big as the original!

I'll be up for some aquilegia seeds when those are ready. ;D Can swap for some of mine or something different, depending what I have at the time. Have loads of aquilegia seedlings planted out down the allotment now, and once they flower, will label them for colour/type and hope to offer plants in the autumn. Need to get my sweetpeas in later today, and more seeds planted over the weekend. I only have a mini greenhouse, but have that emptied of seedlings now. I still have lots of lemon mint plants available for sale/swaps. Also lots of Jerusalem artichokes, if anyone wants to take a chance and grow those? I know Mary wants some, and will post those off on Monday. Anyone planting those, needs to put them in a disused area of the garden, as they will take over unless cropped well from November through to about the end of March. I planted about 6 two years ago, and now have hundreds! Given loads away locally, eaten loads, and still they appear.

lily of the valley anyone, I'm sure it's best planted in the green ( or is that snowdrops?) if there's some lemon mint left, yes please. If anyone wants some lemon scented geranium I'll root some, so it'll take a bit of time but all welcome

aargh! I've lost my post! A couple please Al My favourite acquilegia is a white with variegated leaves. it self seeds and sometimes variegated seedlings come up, and then they disappear without trace. Are they more likely to be eaten by slugs, do you think. I need to make a point of saving seed and sowing it, not just hoping one will survive! edited to add- will post Monday or tuesday, Al

Thanks, Elaine.
I find my aqueligias are one plant the slugs here don't like, so I can't explain what happens to yours. I have a couple of the late sown seedlings from last year about to bloom down the allotment, and looking as if they will be pink. Also have some with varigated leaves, but those are green and with a reddish tinge. Not seen that before, but they seem too small to bloom this year, so hoping they will survive okay until next year. I saw some seeds recently in a catalogue online that were bronze coloured, so I may send off for a pack if I can find them again.
Will post your mints out Monday or Tuesday, depending on the time my blacksmith turns up Monday!

:)Err? Don't know if this is right, but think I heard somewhere that the aquilegas cross pollinate so you can end up with something different each year??? So perhaps your favs are being 'diluted'?? Any experts who can say if this is right or not??? I just let mine get on with it, self seed all over, and some I don't recognise as ones I planted, or perhaps they 'revert' to basic stock if just left??? Would be interested to know!!

Yes, they do cross-pollinate. I don't know about being diluted, though, I get lots of lovely variations, doubles and singles, from mine, but do try and introduce some new ones from outside stock each year. I am always up for swapping seeds with others who have different ones, but otherwise let nature take its course.

I suspect that varigation is a recessive character, which is why I get far fewer variegated than green, but they come up multicoloured and then disappear. The plant is getting on now, and I think every year will be it's last, I must make determined efforts to save seed and transplant any showing promise. Must admit to being a sucker for any thing slightly unusual

The mint and the artichokes have now been posted out. Hoping that the rain and hail stones today haven't damaged all the seedlings that I've planted out. The weather just cannot make its mind up what it is doing today.

We will be bringing out a MAY newsletter soon, and have received a couple of submissions for that, so if anyone else has any subissions, please can they email them to Jack or to me ASAP, thanks. My sweetpeas seem to have survived yesterday's hail fairly well, but I cannot believe how many weeds have sprung up since the rain! A few tiny nastursians have appeared literally overnight and under the cherry tree! Found lots of tiny ash trees starting to appear in a disused chicken run, too, so will be trying to rescue and pot those up for the W & W projects. If anyone wants some of those, let me know, although they can't really be posted until the autumn, and when dormant. (They are the proper, large ash saplings, not Mountain Ash/Rowans, so destined to become very large trees eventually.)

;D - Love the colour of your pansies, Sue. I do hope you will be gathering seed from those? Your potted lemon mint will soon outgrow that little pot! I think it's about time we organised a fun photo show for this group. Does ayone have any ideas for classes? One must surely be for the 'Most Unusual & Decorative Planter/Tub/barrel etc.' My ex has a wheelbarrow planted with a spud and carrots. Not sure why he has a spud sprouting in that, but... ;D Would anyone here be interested in an auction or sale of 'Botanical Watercolour studies' later in the year? I was talking with someone who does these the other day and they offered to give me a few lessons. It could be a way of helping with fund-raising for the various projects.

Sorry, no idea about that weed. My lemon mint is growing that nice, too (but we daringly put it straight into the 'garden' area of the Dickerfield, next to the lovely TRPD-geraniums). The fun photo show sounds great! Depending on the state of my bank account I think I might be very interested in a sale/auction of botanical water colours (I'd like to meet somebody who can give me lessons in drawing / water colours! But I'm afraid I'm quite hopeless)
